Director of Transfusion Medicine

We are seeking an experienced, board-certified academic transfusion medicine physician to serve as the Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine Services at Saint Louis University Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. This role entails providing medical leadership to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have expertise in transfusion medicine and medical leadership, eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Saint Louis University School of Medicine.Responsibilities include:1. Medical Leadership: Directing the Transfusion Medicine section, ensuring compliance with policies and standards with opportunities to provide regional and system-level leadership to ensure best practices across the healthcare system. 2. Patient Care: Offering medical consultation on transfusion-related issues for optimal patient outcomes.3. Quality Improvement: Initiating initiatives to enhance patient care quality and safety.4. Blood Product Utilization: Leading a team to optimize blood product usage, ensuring safety and efficiency.5. Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and accreditation standards.6. Staff Development: Educating and mentoring staff on transfusion medicine principles.7. Education and Research: Staying updated with transfusion medicine advancements and engaging in educational and research activities with opportunities to provide leadership for an ACGME-accredited transfusion medicine fellowship.8. Collaboration: Coordinating care with other departments for patients needing transfusions.9. Policy Compliance: Ensuring adherence to institutional policies related to transfusion medicine.

Requirements

· Medical degree (MD or DO)· Missouri medical license eligibility· Board certification in Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine· Strong clinical and leadership skills· Excellent communication and teaching abilities· Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., AABB, CAP)The Transfusion Medicine Service supports adult and pediatric patients across several specialized programs, including trauma, transplant, ECMO, and surgical services.
