Santanna does not sponsor applicants for work visas.*Job Summary: Santanna Energy Services is seeking a Director of Retail Portfolio Risk and Analytics to lead the analytical disciplines connecting risk management, load forecasting, retail pricing, market settlements, and emerging retail energy businesses. The role owns the company risk policy and reporting framework, leads load forecasting and retail pricing teams, and provides hands-on analysis for high-priority or complex issues. The ideal candidate combines deep PJM and utility settlement knowledge with strong analytical and business judgment.Core Focus AreasRisk policy, governance, reporting, and executive decision supportGross Margin at Risk (GMaR), scenario modeling, stress testing, and portfolio exposureLoad forecasting leadership, performance measurement, and improvementRetail pricing analytics, model-input governance, and risk-based pricingPJM market design, wholesale and utility settlements, and billing determinantsAnalytical support for batteries, VPPs, DERs, and other emerging business modelsTeam leadership combined with selective hands-on analysisRisk Management, Governance & ReportingOwn the company risk policy, recommending changes to limits, controls, governance, and reporting.Own and lead portfolio risk reporting for senior leadership, including Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR), scenarios, stress tests, and sensitivities.Evaluate portfolio exposure to weather, load variability, customer attrition, market prices, basis, capacity, ancillary costs, utility reconciliation, product structure, and other material risk factors.Translate analysis into clear risks, alternatives, and recommendations for executives.Ensure risk frameworks evolve with new markets, products, and business models.Load ForecastingLead the load forecasting team, setting priorities, performance standards, and development goals.Drive accountability for forecast accuracy, bias, timeliness, model stability, and financial impact.Ensure forecasts incorporate weather, customer growth, usage, attrition, product mix, load profiles, smart-meter data, and settlement practices.Maintain a pipeline of forecasting improvements and personally perform targeted analysis when appropriate.Retail PricingLead the retail pricing team and establish standards for model quality, documentation, inputs, and controls.Govern pricing inputs, validation, refresh schedules, source documentation, and exceptions.Recommend risk-based pricing adjustments based on market conditions, forecast uncertainty, settlement methods, customer characteristics, and cost drivers.Ensure pricing reflects wholesale costs, utility settlements, capacity, transmission, losses, load shape, and customer usage.Partner with the President and VP of Finance to provide analytical insights and recommendations, while the VP retains ownership of overall product economics and margin assumptionsSupport analysis of new products, customer segments, and market-entry opportunitiesPJM & Utility SettlementsServe as a subject matter expert on PJM market design, wholesale settlements, utility settlements, and customer billing determinants.Maintain strong knowledge of PJM energy and capacity markets, including the Base Residual Auction, PLC, and NSPL methodologies.Understand utility load-profile settlement, reconciliation, interval settlement, and smart-meter billing.Research complex market and utility issues using primary sources and subject matter experts and document conclusions for business use.Assess how market rules, tariffs, settlement methods, capacity obligations, and data availability affect pricing, risk, products, and customer economics.Maintain awareness of relevant PUC activity; regulatory compliance is outside the role's ownership.Strategic & Emerging Business ModelsProvide analytical support for retail batteries, virtual power plants, distributed energy resources, and other emerging models.Test business-model assumptions involving load, smart-meter data, capacity and transmission tags, settlement timing, costs, revenues, risk, and operations.Validate proposed models against PJM and utility settlement structures.Leadership & ExecutionLead a small team primarily focused on forecasting and pricing.Turn broad business questions into structured analytical work, delegate effectively, and maintain a prioritized pipeline of high-value projects.Perform targeted ad hoc analysis when faster or more effective than delegation.Improve team capability, accountability, documentation, and repeatable processes.Communicate technical findings clearly to executive, finance, commercial, and operational audiences.Cross-Functional PartnershipPartner with the President, Manager of Energy Operations, Finance, Sales, Marketing, , Legal, and other stakeholders to ensure risk and settlement considerations are reflected in business decisions.Coordinate with Energy Operations on procurement, scheduling, and market-execution issues.Develop productive relationships with PJM, utilities, consultants, vendors, and other market experts as needed to resolve complex analytical or settlement questions.QualificationsBachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering, quantitative finance, business, energy, or related field; advanced degree preferred.Typically 10+ years of relevant experience in retail energy risk, portfolio analytics, load forecasting, pricing, PJM markets, utility settlements, or related areas.Strong understanding of the retail energy business and the interaction among wholesale costs, utility settlements, customer usage, pricing, products, and risk.Strong PJM market knowledge, including capacity markets, PLC, and NSPL.Strong understanding of utility settlement structures, including load profiles, reconciliation, smart-meter/interval data, and billing determinants.Experience with GMaR or comparable risk frameworks, scenario analysis, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.Experience leading analysts or small technical teams and managing priorities and performance.Ability to work directly with models and data while also directing deeper staff analysis.Strong Excel skills; SQL, Python, VBA, BI tools, or similar experience preferred.Strong analytical judgment, intellectual curiosity, and persistence in researching complex market and utility issues.Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical analysis into business recommendations.CompetenciesEthics - Treats people with respect;
