We are an inclusive and flexible team that loves collaborating internally and externally, motivated by a belief that the supportive environment we provide is reflected in the quality of what we deliver.The roleYou'll turn satellite radar data into reliable ground or structure related information for clients, and build the methods and tools that improve our products.Most of your time will be spent delivering client projects, and some on R&D. The balance will shift with business need, so you'll need to move between deadline-driven delivery work and development work.Our office is in Leeds, UK where you will be expected to attend at least once per week as part of a hybrid working pattern.Key responsibilitiesProcess InSAR from a range of SAR missions, including data selection, parameter setting and quality control.Evaluate InSAR results, considering whether they meet client needs and are of suitable quality, iterating processing if required.Interpret deformation results in their geological and engineering context: subsidence, slope stability, infrastructure, mining and reservoirs.Produce clear technical reports, GIS outputs and visualisations that clients can act on.Take the role of technical expert in client meetings, explaining uncertainty and limitations in plain language.Contribute to fast-paced product development, often to evolving requirements shaped with clients.Prototype and test new methods. Publish and present at conferences such as FRINGE where it fits company priorities.Adapt and develop tools and our processing chain to meet requirements of clients, projects or product development.What you'll bringEssentialMSc or PhD in geophysics, remote sensing, geomatics, Earth sciences, geotechnical engineering or a related field or equivalent professional field.Extensive hands-on InSAR experience, can include PhD work.Strong coding background: clean, maintainable code for SAR/InSAR processing and analysis. Comfortable with Git, code review and testing, and with turning research prototypes into tools others can use. Most of our software is written and developed in Python, so familiarity with Python is a big advantage.A proven ability to develop or adapt InSAR methods, not just run existing software, e.g. in phase unwrapping, atmospheric correction, time-series analysis or uncertainty estimation.Confident on the Linux command line, with GIS skills (QGIS/ArcGIS) and experience of spatial data.A track record of delivering technical work to deadlines, maintaining accurate documentation and a high degree of organisation.Able to write clear client-ready reports and present technical results confidently in English.DesirableExperience with any of SNAP, ISCE, GAMMA, StaMPS, MintPy or proprietary processing chains.An application background in civil engineering, mining, oil & gas or natural hazards.Cloud or HPC processing at scale (AWS, Docker, job orchestration).Validating InSAR against GNSS, levelling or other in-situ measurements.Experience working with other data sets such as multi / hyperspectral data and DEMs for applications such as change detection, soil moisture and vegetation mapping.Peer-reviewed publications.Who will thrive hereAcademically excellent, but able to apply intellect to solve the right problems accurately and quickly, and communicate clearly.Pragmatic: you know when a result is good enough for a client and when it needs more refinement.Independent: able to plan out how to deliver a project and work through the different steps largely independently, seeking help quickly if unsure on the best way to proceed.Able to switch between delivery and research effectively.Why work hereWe have a supportive and flexible culture, creating a friendly and fun place to work.You will be surrounded by exceptionally talented people who will want you to succeed.A base salary between £35k and £45k per annum, with a performance-related annual bonus and an opportunity to earn share options in SatSense.A range of benefits to support work-life balance, including 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (rising to 30 with continuous service), flexible hybrid working, enhanced maternity and paternity pay, a CPD budget, an Octopus EV car scheme, cycle to work, and our benefits platform with pension salary sacrifice, childcare and tech schemes, retail and gym discounts, and free financial advice.How to applySend your CV and a short cover letter to careers@satsense.com.
