Apply & track with Apply EdgeJob PurposeThe Economist will lead forward-looking research on emerging economic and non-economic policy issues affecting Arab economies, including climate change, green finance, energy transition, the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), cybersecurity, and public digital services.The role focuses on producing high-impact, data-driven research and policy insights, leveraging advanced analytical tools and AI to inform decision-making, support capacity development, and strengthen economic resilience and sustainable growth across member countries.Key Accountability Areas and ActivitiesThe key activities include, but are not limited to, the following:Conduct applied and exploratory research on frontier topics, integrating AI, machine learning, and advanced analytical methodologiesAnalyze macroeconomic, financial, and sectoral data to identify emerging risks, trends, and opportunities, particularly in climate finance, energy security, and digital transformationDevelop and publish high-impact research papers, policy notes, and analytical reports addressing pressing regional challengesProvide evidence-based policy recommendations in areas such as green finance, AI governance, and energy transitionDesign and implement climate risk assessments, stress testing models, and digital economy analysesAdvance the division’s research agenda aligned with regional priorities and global best practicesContribute to the design and delivery of technical assistance programs and capacity-building initiatives for member countriesDevelop and deliver training courses on frontier topics, including climate finance, AI in economics, and digital economy policiesOrganize workshops, seminars, and policy dialogues to disseminate research findings and foster knowledge exchangeBuild and maintain strong relationships with central banks, policymakers, and international partnersMonitor research projects and ensure timely delivery of outputs aligned with institutional objectivesIntroduce innovative tools, methodologies, and knowledge systems to enhance research effectiveness and policy impactStrengthen collaboration across internal departments and external stakeholders to support strategic initiativesQualifications and RequirementsA minimum of 5–6 years of relevant experience in economic research, policy analysis, or financial sector developmentExperience in central banks, ministries, international financial institutions, or research centers is highly desirableStrong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and experience in delivering training programs is preferredAdvanced quantitative and analytical skills, including proficiency in AI and data analytics tools (e.g., Python, R)Master’s degree in economics or a related field (PhD is an advantage)Additional certifications in climate risk, energy, data science, or financial innovation are a plusExcellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and English (French is an advantage)Technical SkillsProficiency in econometric and statistical software (e.g., STATA, EViews, SAS)Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)Familiarity with knowledge management and collaboration platformsStrong understanding of macro-financial analysis and policy frameworksCore CompetenciesAnalytical thinking and problem-solvingEffective communication and stakeholder engagementCollaboration and teamworkAdaptability and professionalismInnovation and continuous learningWe offer an attractive package of benefits aligned with our employment policies, including a tax-free salary and supplementary allowances such as housing, furniture, air tickets, schooling, and comprehensive medical insurance.Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
