Organization DescriptionEDUPRIZE Schools is an Arizona public charter school system serving more than 2,800 students across three programs: a flagship K–8 campus in Gilbert, a K–8 campus in Queen Creek, and EDUPRIZE Online, a K–12 online program serving families statewide. Founded on the belief that a public school can be both academically rigorous and genuinely joyful, EDUPRIZE has been designated an A+ School of Excellence repeatedly across its history, one of the few sustained records of that kind in Arizona charter education. The school operates as an Arizona nonprofit corporation, Eduprize Schools, Inc. Day-to-day management services are provided under a board-approved Management Services Agreement with Achieve Education Group (AEG), a Gilbert-based education management organization. EDUPRIZE is in an active growth phase, including a middle school expansion at its Queen Creek campus financed through the tax-exempt bond market.Role DescriptionEDUPRIZE Schools is seeking volunteer members for its governing board. This is an uncompensated public service role. Board members are the school's fiduciaries: they hold the charter, set policy, approve the budget, oversee the performance of management, and answer to families, to the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools, and to the public.Board members serve on a volunteer basis, meeting monthly in Gilbert, Arizona, with additional committee work and occasional special sessions as school business requires. Meetings are subject to Arizona public meeting requirements. Beyond attending meetings, board members review academic and financial performance data, evaluate and approve major initiatives, budgets, and policies, oversee capital and facilities decisions tied to the school's expansion, monitor the management relationship with AEG, and support long-range planning for enrollment, facilities, and program growth.The board's work is substantive. In the past year it has approved a bond financing for campus expansion, adopted a management agreement, converted the school's corporate form, and made difficult staffing and budget decisions. Candidates should expect real oversight responsibility, real accountability, and a real seat at the table on decisions that affect thousands of students.We are looking for people who want to give their time and expertise to a school system that has earned its academic reputation and intends to keep it.QualificationsWe are particularly interested in candidates who bring one or more of the following. None is required, and each is preferred rather than mandatory:Legal expertise, particularly in nonprofit governance, education law, employment, real estate, or public finance.Construction, development, or facilities experience, including project delivery, contracting, or owner's-representative work on institutional buildings.Familiarity with the charter school bond market, municipal finance, credit, or tax-exempt debt.Extensive charter school or K–12 education experience, including school leadership, instruction, authorizer or regulatory work, or academic accountability.Prior governing board or senior leadership service, in education, nonprofit, public sector, or business settings.Financial literacy sufficient to read a budget, an audit, and a set of monthly financials, and to ask the right questions about them.The ability to interpret student achievement and growth data and connect it to policy and resource decisions.Strong communication and collaboration skills, and the judgment to engage constructively with families, staff, and the school's authorizer.Commitment to ethical governance, transparency, and the interests of students and families above all other considerations.Bachelor's degree required.
