Apply & track with Apply EdgeNav-Tech Inc. | Hauppauge, NY (on-site) | Full-time | Relocation assistance available About Nav-Tech Nav-Tech Inc. is a growing manufacturer of engineered-to-order low- and medium-voltage switchgear, power distribution equipment, and custom electrical enclosures, serving contractors, utilities, and OEM customers across the New York metro area and across the USA. Nav-Tech is a division of Eleconnex, a private equity-backed electrical products platform, and is investing in its engineering organization to support a growing backlog of utility and commercial projects. Engineers at Nav-Tech own designs end to end — from customer specification through drawings, production support, and testing — rather than working on one narrow slice of a large product line. Position Summary We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with 5–10 years of experience designing low- and/or medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution equipment. The engineer will translate customer specifications into compliant, manufacturable switchgear designs; produce one-line diagrams, layout and fabrication drawings, and bills of material; select protective devices; and support production and testing through release. This is a hands-on design role in a fast-moving engineered-to-order shop, reporting to the Engineering Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, and power distribution assemblies to UL 891 and/or UL 1558, from customer specification to released drawing package
- Prepare one-line diagrams, three-line and control/wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and bills of material
- Perform or review short-circuit, coordination, and load calculations; select and apply molded case and power circuit breakers, disconnects, metering transformers, and copper bus
- Ensure designs comply with NEC, NEMA, ANSI/IEEE, and applicable UL standards; support UL construction reviews and witness testing
- Use 2D/3D CAD to create models and drawings for customer projects, enclosures, and bus work
- Review customer specifications and submittals; respond to technical questions from customers, consulting engineers, and inspectors in coordination with the sales team
- Support production during build — resolve design questions on the floor, disposition non conformances, and drive design changes that reduce cost or lead time
- Write and execute test protocols and final test reports for completed equipment
- Contribute to engineering standards, templates, and process discipline as the department grows Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university
- 5–10 years designing low- or medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, or power distribution equipment
- Working knowledge of UL 891 and/or UL 1558, NEC, NEMA, and ANSI/IEEE standards
- Experience preparing one-line diagrams and performing short-circuit and protective device selection/coordination
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks, or Inventor) and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to manage multiple projects in an engineered-to order environment
- Clear written and verbal communication with customers, production, and management Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at a switchgear or power equipment manufacturer such as Eaton, Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB/Hitachi Energy, ASCO Power Technologies, Powell Industries, Myers Power Products, Vertiv, or similar
- Experience with power system analysis software (SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower)
- Familiarity with sheet metal design, copper bus fabrication, and GD&T
- Experience supporting UL file maintenance, witness testing, or field labeling Schedule and Location Full-time, on-site at 155 Marcus Blvd, Hauppauge, NY 11788. Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
