Do you want to use your electronical knowledge to help create products which enrich people's lives by enabling them to better pursue their passions in sports?As an Embedded Software Engineer, you create the software that brings our indoor cycling trainers to life. You are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the software for all the new and already existing Tacx smart trainer products. This means that you are involved in the concept development phase, prototyping and production as well as creating improvements to the smart trainers which are already in production.In this position you write and debug microcontroller code for embedded systems and weigh design tradeoffs to create systems that provide maximum performance within the constraints of memory, CPU speed, and cost. You use tools like hardware debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters. You work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined environment to turn ideas and concepts into manufacturable products that are distributed all over the world.The Engineering and R&D departmentOur product firmware team consists of 9 professionals with passion for Engineering and sports. In this position you are part of our Engineering department, consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers. You will work in close cooperation with other engineers to design and develop products at our office and manufacturing facility in Oegstgeest. Aside from all your local coworkers, you’ll work together with international (Garmin) colleagues from different kinds of disciplines all over the world. You will report to our Product Software Team LeadWhat are your main tasks and responsibilities?You architect, design, and implement microcontroller software solutions for Tacx cycling trainer products, by writing C code for microcontroller-based products.Bring up software on bare boards and validate platform performance.Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to prepare products to be manufactured and implement necessary interfaces for tests and instrumentation.Provide input to project managers to help them to make realistic schedules.Distill software requirements into executable tasks that can be grouped into project milestones and coordinate software releases.Participate in peer code reviews, design reviews, and technical brainstorming.Assist Electrical/hardware engineers in creating new electrical designs, reviewing schematics, and ensuring hardware and software work in harmony.Serve as mentor to less experienced software engineers and interns.You can gain experience with:Modern low-power wireless protocols (Bluetooth and Wifi), motor control applications and electromagnetics.Developing, debugging and optimizing embedded multi-threaded systems running on ARM-based processor architectures.Hands-on electronics hardware experience (e.g. soldering).Product design and collaborating with manufacturing.What do we expect from you?You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or similar.Strong familiarity with the C programming language.Experience creating software for microcontrollers on embedded systems in bare-metal or RTOS-based platforms.Experience using digital communication protocols like SPI, UART, and I2C to interface with sensors and ICs.Rudimentary understanding of physics, math, and mechanics to understand how they apply to cycling and trainers.Experience using Python and other scripting languages is seen as a plusSolid written and verbal communication skills in English (Dutch is beneficial).What we offer you?We offer you the opportunity to contribute to the ambitions and success of a globally growing company.
