Job SummaryThe emergency medical technician (EMT) provides basic life support and patient care at the direction of the paramedic prior to interhospital and intrahospital transport and is responsible for safe operation of the ambulance vehicle during transit. The EMT will follow all the standards of care as established by Indiana Department of Homeland Security - EMS Division, and the Riverview Health EMS Medical Director(s).Job ResponsibilitiesAssist to provide care to patients during inter-facility transport, including but not limited to: Basic first aid (splinting, wound care, etc.), obtaining vital signs, managing non-invasive airway supportPrepare patients for safe transport to the destination facilityOperate ambulance vehicle safely and in accordance with all state and local traffic lawsCollaborate with medical director(s), Riverview Health interdisciplinary teams, and Organizational Improvement to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhancement of the patient experienceCommunicate effectively with patients and their families as well as other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare teamMaintain readiness of ambulance vehicle at all times, to include sufficient medical oxygen, functioning of equipment, and stocking of suppliesParticipate in ongoing education and performance improvement initiatives as required by state law and/or as assigned by hospital managementOther duties as assignedEducation RequirementsMinimum: Completion of state-certified EMT programLicense/Certification RequirementsMinimum:Current EMT CertificationBasic Life Support Program (BLS) ProviderAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) ProviderPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) ProviderEmergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) – Must have or obtain within 6 months of hireValid Indiana Driver's license and driving record that meets organizational requirements to drive a RVH owned vehicleRequired:Experience RequirementsNonePreferred:One (1) year of experience as an EMT with an ambulance serviceEducationPreferredHigh School or better in OtherGED or better in OtherLicenses & CertificationsRequiredBLS- Basic Life SupportPreferredACLSDriver LicensePALSEqual Opportunity EmployerThis employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
