OperationsEmployment Type: Full-Time / Part-TimeReports To: Operations Supervisor / EMS ManagementPosition SummaryMedex Transportation Services, Inc. is seeking a dependable and professional Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care during ambulance transportation.The EMT is responsible for assessing and monitoring patients, providing basic life support within the EMT scope of practice, safely transporting patients, completing required documentation, maintaining ambulance readiness, and providing excellent service to patients, families, healthcare facilities, and referral partners.Medex primarily provides medical transportation services, including non-emergency ambulance transports between hospitals, nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, dialysis centers, residences, physician offices, and other healthcare facilities.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide patient care in accordance with Texas EMS regulations, Medex policies, established protocols, and the EMT scope of practice.Assess patients before and during transportation and monitor for changes in condition.Obtain and document vital signs as appropriate.Provide Basic Life Support (BLS), oxygen administration, first aid, CPR, and other EMT-level interventions when medically necessary.Safely transfer patients between beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other transportation equipment.Properly operate ambulance stretchers, stair chairs, oxygen equipment, suction equipment, AEDs, and other EMS equipment.Ensure patients are properly secured before and during transportation.Assist patients with mobility while maintaining patient safety and dignity.Communicate professionally with patients, family members, nurses, physicians, dispatchers, facility personnel, and other healthcare professionals.Receive and communicate appropriate patient information during transfer of care.Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.Complete Patient Care Reports (PCRs), trip documentation, signatures, mileage information, and other required paperwork accurately and promptly.Follow dispatch instructions and communicate trip status, delays, changes, and problems to dispatch.Operate company vehicles safely and in accordance with traffic laws and company policies when assigned to drive.Perform ambulance inspections at the beginning and end of the shift.Check oxygen levels, medical supplies, equipment, stretcher operation, vehicle cleanliness, and overall ambulance readiness.Restock ambulance medical supplies after transports.Maintain the ambulance patient compartment and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition.Report vehicle, equipment, safety, or mechanical problems immediately.Assist other crew members during patient loading, unloading, assessment, and transportation.Follow infection-control procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).Participate in required training, continuing education, safety meetings, and company meetings.Maintain all licenses and certifications required for the position.Assist with other Medex transportation operations when appropriately trained and assigned.Perform other duties reasonably related to EMS and medical transportation operations.Minimum QualificationsCandidate must:Be at least 18 years of age.Hold a current and active Texas EMT certification.Maintain EMT certification in good standing throughout employment.Hold a current CPR/BLS certification acceptable to Medex.Possess a valid driver's license if required to operate a company vehicle.Meet Medex and its insurance carrier's driving eligibility requirements.Be able to successfully complete required background, employment, driving-record, and other pre-employment screening.Have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform patient-care and documentation responsibilities.Be able to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, dispatchers, and coworkers.Be able to safely lift, move, position, and transfer patients and EMS equipment with assistance and in accordance with company lifting procedures.Preferred QualificationsPrevious ambulance or EMS experience.Experience with non-emergency and interfacility ambulance transportation.Experience transporting elderly, disabled, bariatric, dialysis, rehabilitation, or medically fragile patients.Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent ambulance-driver training.Familiarity with electronic Patient Care Reports (ePCR).Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desirable for serving patients throughout the Rio Grande Valley.Knowledge of hospitals, nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, and healthcare patients.Physical RequirementsThis position requires the employee to be physically capable of performing EMS-related activities, including:Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling.Loading and unloading ambulance stretchers.Assisting with patient transfers.Moving patients and equipment with another crew member.Entering and exiting ambulances repeatedly throughout a shift.Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.Working around bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and other hazards normally associated with EMS operations while utilizing appropriate PPE and infection-control procedures.Reasonable accommodations may be considered in accordance with applicable law.Work ScheduleEMTs may be scheduled for:Day or evening shifts.Weekdays and weekends.Holidays as required by operational needs.Overtime when necessary.On-call or extended shifts depending on ambulance coverage requirements.Employees must report to work on time and be prepared to begin assigned duties at the scheduled start of the shift.Patient Service ExpectationsEvery Medex EMT is expected to treat each patient with safety, dignity, compassion, and respect.Because EMTs interact directly with hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare facilities, patients, and family members, they also represent Medex in the community.
