Calian / Deloitte is a third‑party service provider contracted by the Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG) to provide information and candidate sourcing support for CAF career opportunities and entry programs.Overview: As a member of the military, Emergency Medicine Specialists belong to the Medical Specialist occupation in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). They provide specialized urgent and emergent resuscitative care in both pre-hospital and hospital environments, supporting Canadian Forces Health Services during domestic operations, international deployments, peace support missions, and humanitarian responses. Emergency Medicine Specialists have the opportunity to serve as leaders within the CAF Health Services while mentoring and educating military healthcare professionals across a wide range of clinical settings.

Responsibilities

Provide specialized emergency medicine consultation, resuscitative care, and clinical leadership for CAF members in operational and deployed environments. Participate in multidisciplinary emergency and trauma resuscitation teams during domestic operations and international deployments. Serve as a member of specialized Forward Air Evacuation teams, delivering critical in-transit care to injured or ill CAF personnel during aeromedical evacuation missions. Advise military healthcare teams on emergency medicine best practices, trauma care, critical care stabilization, and operational medical readiness. Contribute expert clinical support during humanitarian missions, disaster response operations, and other domestic and international contingency operations. Educate, mentor, and support multidisciplinary healthcare teams in emergency medicine principles, resuscitation techniques, trauma management, and clinical decision-making. Maintain a high level of clinical expertise through ongoing practice within civilian emergency departments and trauma centres that meet CAF requirements. Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare policies, operational medical directives, quality improvement initiatives, and emergency preparedness strategies within the CAF. Requirements Education & Certifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school. Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice medicine in Canada. Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Emergency Medicine. Unrestricted licence to practice Emergency Medicine in a Canadian province or territory. Experience Experience providing emergency and resuscitative care in high-acuity hospital emergency departments. Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, stabilization, and management of critically ill or injured patients. Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare and trauma teams. Teaching, mentoring, and clinical education experience considered an asset. Experience in trauma care, pre-hospital medicine, transport medicine, disaster medicine, military medicine, humanitarian operations, or austere environments is considered an asset. Knowledge & Skills Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Expertise in emergency resuscitation, trauma management, critical care stabilization, and emergency procedures. Ability to provide emergency medical expertise in deployed, austere, and operational settings. Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and consultation skills. Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining clinical readiness. Ability to contribute to operational planning, healthcare policy development, and quality improvement initiatives within the CAF. Adaptability and resilience when delivering care in dynamic and challenging environments.
