Leumas® · Greater Bengaluru Area
Apply & track with Apply EdgeCompany Overview — LeumasLeumas is a venture-funded deep-tech company based in Bengaluru, building modular robotic factories and software-defined manufacturing systems for healthcare products. Our R&D ambition is to build the future of drug manufacturing across emerging therapeutic modalities. We are developing new manufacturing modules and technologies for peptide synthesis, oncology applications and other advanced drug-production processes, while exploring Physical AI to make manufacturing systems more capable, adaptive and autonomous. This work brings together mechanical engineering, chemistry, process development, electronics, firmware, AI and quality systems. Our engineers translate scientific and process requirements into machines, test them through experiments and develop them toward scalable manufacturing platforms. We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader who wants to tackle unfamiliar engineering problems, build a strong multidisciplinary team and help define how future medicines will be manufactured.Industry ContextOur equipment must combine process performance, flexible configurations, hygienic design and practical manufacturing economics. Development succeeds when new mechanisms work repeatedly across realistic operating conditions. The RoleYou will lead mechanical and manufacturing-system R&D for Leumas’ next generation of technology modules, spanning peptides, oncology applications, Physical AI and emerging drug-manufacturing processes.Working closely with scientific, process, electrical, firmware and AI teams, you will translate new process requirements into equipment architectures, experimental systems and deployable manufacturing modules. You will guide development from early feasibility through prototypes, performance verification and transfer toward production. This role requires strong mechanical engineering depth, systems thinking and the ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly. You will build and mentor the engineering team while remaining personally involved in critical designs, experiments and technical decisions. What You’ll Own1. Technology roadmap — Translate manufacturing needs into development requirements, technical priorities and measurable acceptance criteria. Plan projects, resources and design milestones with leadership.2. Architecture & design — Lead mechanisms, motion systems, product-contact assemblies and modular interfaces. Review materials, tolerances, cleanability, maintainability and cost before releasing designs.3. Prototype learning — Plan experiments and instrumented trials; quantify dosing accuracy, throughput, repeatability or other relevant performance. Resolve failure modes through evidence and controlled design iterations.4. Cross-functional integration — Agree mechanical, electrical and software interfaces early. Coordinate process constraints, sensors, actuation, guarding and service access through complete-machine trials.5. Industrialisation — Own drawing and BOM quality, design-for-manufacture reviews and engineering change discipline. Transfer designs to build teams with assembly, test and operating documentation.6. Team & knowledge — Coach engineers, run technical reviews and maintain reusable design knowledge. Support invention documentation and protect confidential engineering information.7. New Manufacturing Technologies & Module Architecture — Work with scientists and process experts to understand the manufacturing requirements of new therapeutic modalities. Translate these into equipment concepts, module architectures and development plans. Evaluate technical feasibility, identify critical unknowns and build experiments that establish whether an approach can work.8. Physical AI & Adaptive Manufacturing — Collaborate with AI, robotics and controls teams to develop machines that can sense, interpret and respond to physical process conditions. Own the mechanical systems, actuation, sensing provisions and interfaces needed to test these capabilities. Establish measurable performance targets and appropriate safeguards with the responsible teams. You’re a Fit If· BE/BTech, ME/Mtech, PHD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline; typically 8–12 years in machine design and product development, including technical team leadership. A strong academic foundation from a leading engineering institution such as IITs, IISc, BITS or leading NITs is preferred.· Track record delivering machines from requirements through prototypes, testing and manufacturing release.· Strong fundamentals in mechanisms, machine elements, tolerances, materials and engineering analysis, with practical CAD proficiency.· Ability to balance experimentation with schedules and lead cross-functional decisions using test evidence.· You have developed novel machines or complex hardware where the solution was not fully defined at the outset.· You can translate scientific or process requirements into engineering problems and work effectively with experts outside your discipline.· You understand how mechanical design, sensing, actuation and software interact in a complete system.· You can distinguish early technical feasibility from equipment ready for reliable manufacturing.Preferred: Candidates with a leading engineering-institution background and/or substantial R&D experience in a leading technology company / deep tech startups.
