We’re scaling quickly, and our technology platform plays a critical role in supporting our continued growth across the region.About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the backend systems powering Eyewa’s e-commerce platform, order management, payments, fulfilment and in-store experiences.You will manage and develop a team of backend engineers while remaining closely involved in technical direction, architecture and delivery. Working across Product, Mobile, Web, Operations, Supply Chain and Customer Support, you will help build reliable, scalable systems that directly impact our customers and business.What You’ll DoLead the design, development and scaling of Java-based backend systems across e-commerce, OMS, POS, CRM and payment platforms.Drive architectural decisions for scalable microservices and distributed systems.Ensure the availability, performance, security and reliability of backend services.Oversee API design and integrations across internal and external platforms.Establish strong engineering practices across system design, coding, testing, observability and deployment.Review technical designs and contribute to critical code reviews.Manage, mentor and develop a team of backend engineers.Lead sprint planning and the delivery of business-critical initiatives.Build a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.Partner with Product, Design, Operations and Support to align technical delivery with business priorities.Identify and address delivery bottlenecks, technical debt and operational inefficiencies.Support the hiring, onboarding, performance management and career development of engineers.Lead incident management, root-cause analysis and post-mortem processes.Improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment practices and overall engineering productivity.Drive the long-term strategy and modernisation of Eyewa’s backend platform.What We’re Looking For8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend development expertise.2+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience.Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot/Spring Framework.Proven experience designing and scaling microservices and distributed systems.Strong knowledge of REST APIs, authentication and system integrations.Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including MySQL/PostgreSQL and MongoDB.Hands-on experience with Hibernate/JPA.Strong understanding of system design, data structures, algorithms and design patterns.Experience working with high-traffic, transaction-heavy systems.Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerisation and CI/CD practices.Strong debugging, problem-solving and production incident management skills.Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.Nice to HaveExperience within e-commerce, retail technology, fintech or omnichannel businesses.Exposure to payment gateways, reconciliation systems, inventory management and order workflows.Experience with Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch or event-driven architecture.Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker and AWS, GCP or Azure.Experience scaling engineering teams and driving engineering and operational metrics.
