Engineering Manager - SmartTV

I’m working with a streaming platform that’s building out its connected TV engineering team. They need an Engineering Manager to own delivery of their big-screen apps across the major TV platforms.What you’ll ownLeading and growing a team of 14 engineers building and maintaining apps across platforms like Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV/Google TV, Apple tvOS and othersDelivery across a messy device landscape: older chipsets, memory limits, differences between firmware versions, and certification with each platform ownerWorking with Product, Design, Video/Player and Backend teams to ship features without hurting playback performance or app stabilityHiring, coaching and building a healthy engineering cultureTechnical direction on architecture, performance and how much code is shared across platformsWhat they’re looking forA background as a hands-on engineer on TV/CTV or living room platforms, now leading teams (or ready to step up)A real understanding of TV app constraints: 10-foot UI, remote/D-pad navigation, focus management, low-powered hardwareExperience with some of: JavaScript/TypeScript, React/Lightning JS, BrightScript, Kotlin, Swift, or C++Familiarity with video playback: HLS/DASH, DRM (Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay), and player SDKsA track record of shipping apps through OEM/platform certificationSomeone who has managed engineers and enjoys it, rather than tolerating itNice to haveAd-supported streaming experience (SSAI/CSAI, FAST channels)Experience at a streaming service, broadcaster, or with a TV manufacturerPerformance profiling on low-end devices
