English Teacher

Role Description The English Teacher role is a full-time, on-site position based in the heart of the Chicago Loop. The English Teacher will design and deliver engaging English language and literature lessons aligned with the institution’s educational goals and standards. Daily responsibilities include lesson planning, classroom instruction, assessing student progress, and providing constructive feedback to support academic and personal growth. The teacher will create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and student support, communicate regularly with learners and caregivers, and participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives that reflect CIRCLE Foundation-Innovations High School mission.RESPONSIBILITIESPlan, prepare, and deliver engaging English language arts instruction using IS's competency-based education model, with frequent integration of literacy and the arts Develop course plans and syllabi using HS templates Design culturally relevant and engaging curriculum aligned to the YCCS Competency Based Learning modelUse varied instructional strategies and resources to meet students' diverse learning needs using the IS/ AC3 model Administer standards-based assessments and utilize assessment data to inform instructionMaintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and provide students with regular feedbackCreate a positive and inclusive classroom environment by establishing and enforcing IS rules and proceduresSupport students through advisory, academic meetings, and outreach as neededParticipate in extracurricular activities, school-wide events, and student organizationsCollaborate with colleagues, families, and support staff to promote student successConduct regular communication with students and families (by phone, email, text, or best method of contact)QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institutionValid Illinois Professional EducatorLicense (PEL) with English Language Arts endorsementMinimum of 1 year of teaching experienceExperience working with urban, at-risk youth preferred
