Director of Studies (EFL) – Ancona, ItalyReady to step up from teaching into academic leadership? TEFL UK is recruiting a Director of Studies for an established English language school in Ancona, on Italy's Adriatic coast.This role is ideal for an experienced English teacher who has started taking on leadership, such as senior teacher, teacher trainer or ADoS, and is ready to run an academic team. You won't be thrown in at the deep end: the role starts with DoS training in November 2026, followed by a handover with the current DoS in December, before you take on the full role in January 2027.What's on offerSalary of up to €1,750 a month after tax, plus performance-related bonusesOvertime usually available for extra incomeOrientation and DoS training on arrivalA full handover period with the outgoing Director of StudiesPaid annual leave and statutory sick payCareer progression, with projects and development opportunities within the organisationA secure, established team and working environmentThe roleDesign and run academic programmes for students of all agesLead, mentor and support the teaching teamObserve lessons, give feedback and support teacher developmentWork with the school's management team to give students a consistent, high-quality experienceMonitor programme results and make improvements where neededBuild a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvementWhat you'll needThe right to work in the EU (EU citizenship or a valid EU work permit)Experience teaching English as a foreign language, with some experience in a leadership or mentoring roleThe ability to lead, motivate and develop a teamStrong communication, organisation and planning skillsA good understanding of curriculum design and academic programmesA bachelor's degree (preferred)Life in AnconaAncona is the capital of the Marche region, a historic port city with beaches and the Conero coast right on its doorstep. It has a relaxed pace of life and a lower cost of living than Milan or Rome, and it's well connected: Bologna is around two hours away by train and Rome around three. Weekends can mean hilltop towns, vineyards, or swimming in the Adriatic.Start dateNovember 2026.
