Role DescriptionAn English Tutor / Academic Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging and effective English-language instruction that supports learners in developing their communication, reading, writing, listening, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and academic skills. The role involves assessing learner needs, developing appropriate lessons, providing individualized support, monitoring progress, and creating a positive learning environment.Key responsibilities include:Planning and delivering structured English lessons based on learner needs, objectives, and academic requirements.Teaching grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading comprehension, writing, listening, speaking, and communication skills.Developing lesson plans, learning materials, exercises, assessments, presentations, and supplementary resources.Assessing learners' language abilities and identifying strengths, weaknesses, learning gaps, and development needs.Providing individualized instruction, tutoring, feedback, coaching, and academic support.Preparing learners for examinations, academic assessments, presentations, interviews, and English proficiency tests where applicable.Monitoring learner progress through assignments, assessments, quizzes, class participation, and regular evaluations.Providing constructive feedback and recommending strategies for improving academic and language performance.Creating interactive activities, discussions, role-plays, presentations, writing exercises, and practical communication tasks.Supporting learners with academic writing, research skills, essay structure, proofreading, vocabulary development, and presentation skills.Adapting teaching methods and materials to different learning styles, abilities, age groups, and educational objectives.Using digital learning platforms, virtual classrooms, educational applications, interactive presentations, multimedia resources, and AI-assisted learning tools where appropriate.Maintaining accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, assessments, learner progress, and academic performance.Communicating with students, parents, academic coordinators, teachers, and other relevant stakeholders regarding learner progress and development.Identifying learners who require additional academic support and developing appropriate improvement plans.Creating a supportive, inclusive, respectful, and motivating learning environment.Encouraging learners to develop confidence, independent-learning skills, critical thinking, and effective communication.Reviewing and updating teaching materials to reflect current educational practices and learner requirements.Supporting curriculum development, academic programs, workshops, language clubs, and extracurricular learning activities where required.Conducting one-to-one and group tutoring sessions through in-person or digital learning environments.Evaluating the effectiveness of teaching methods and making adjustments based on learner outcomes and feedback.Maintaining professional standards, confidentiality, academic integrity, and appropriate safeguarding practices.Participating in academic meetings, professional-development activities, curriculum reviews, and educational initiatives.Continuously improving teaching quality, learner engagement, academic outcomes, and English-language development.QualificationsBachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, Literature, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related discipline.Teaching qualifications such as TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, DELTA, PGCE, or equivalent credentials are advantageous.Strong command of written and spoken English.Excellent grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, writing, communication, and presentation skills.Strong understanding of English-language teaching methodologies and academic learning principles.Ability to develop structured lesson plans, educational materials, assessments, and learning activities.Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and classroom-management skills.Ability to adapt teaching approaches to different learner abilities, learning styles, and academic goals.Strong assessment, feedback, coaching, and learner-support capabilities.Familiarity with online teaching platforms, learning-management systems, digital educational resources, and virtual classroom technologies.Knowledge of English proficiency examinations and academic English requirements is beneficial.Strong ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.Patient, supportive, approachable, professional, and learner-focused attitude.Strong time-management and organizational skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively with educators, academic coordinators, parents, and students.Knowledge of AI-assisted educational tools and digital learning technologies is advantageous.High level of professionalism, integrity, creativity, adaptability, and commitment to learner success.
