About the RoleWe're looking for an Entrepreneur in Residence to conceive, champion, and lead the next generation of wholly owned therapeutic programs.In this role, you'll identify promising disease opportunities, develop the therapeutic thesis, build the investment case, and drive the strategy from scientific insight through early development. You'll have the opportunity to shape programs from day one, with the freedom and accountability that come with real ownership.You'll bring the vision. We'll bring the platform: proprietary generative AI for disease biology and de novo antibody design, integrated experimental capabilities, dedicated compute infrastructure, and a team committed to turning bold ideas into breakthrough medicines.This is a role for builders. People who are energized by creating something from nothing and who want to combine scientific ambition with entrepreneurial ownership.This role reports to the Chief Medical Officer/Head of R&D, with regular exposure to and partnership with the CEO and Investment Committee. Accountable for shaping, advancing, and championing therapeutic programs from inception through key value-creating milestones.What You'll DoOriginate the science. Interrogate Absci's disease-biology and target-discovery AI engine (ATLAS) alongside primary literature, human genetics, and single-cell and patient-derived data to identify targets and indications worth a program. Stress-test your thesis with KOLs, clinical thought leaders, and scientific advisors before capital is committed.Build the investment case. Think like a founder and act like an owner. Evaluate scientific, clinical, competitive, and commercial opportunities to build a compelling case for investment. Present your vision to Absci's leadership team and Investment Committee, securing the resources needed to advance your program from concept to reality.Lead as a founder, powered by Absci. Take ownership of a therapeutic opportunity from its earliest scientific insight through key development milestones. As the hub of a lean, entrepreneurial team, you'll bring together expertise across AI, disease biology, protein engineering, translational science, development, and commercialization to advance a differentiated therapeutic vision. You'll have autonomy to propose and develop your therapeutic program concepts, the resources of an integrated platform, and the ability to move quickly using agentic AI, internal capabilities, and external partners to turn bold ideas into medicines.Turn scientific insights into medicines. Guide your program from initial hypothesis through candidate selection and IND-enabling activities. Make critical decisions informed by scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial considerations. Continuously evaluate data, challenge assumptions, and adapt the strategy to maximize the probability of technical and clinical success.Build value at every stage. Develop programs with multiple paths to success, including internal advancement, strategic partnerships, external financing, or company creation. Craft and communicate a compelling vision that resonates with scientific leaders, investors, partners, and stakeholders, while driving meaningful value creation along the way.Shape the future of AI-native drug discovery. Work at the intersection of entrepreneurship, biology, and artificial intelligence, helping define how novel therapeutics are discovered and developed. Contribute not only to individual programs, but also to the evolution of a new model for building biotechnology companies.What You BringPhD, MD, or MD/PhD in pharmacology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with 12+ years in drug discovery and development or an equivalent record of building therapeutic programs and companies.At least one program initiated and developed from target indication identification through IND submission.Deep expertise in the pharmacology and mechanistic biology of biologics (antibodies, bispecifics, engineered protein therapeutics), including translational and quantitative pharmacology (PK/PD, receptor occupancy, biomarker strategy).A genuine track record of origination. You have a knack for starting things that matter, programs, companies, or investment theses that exist today because you saw the opportunity first and built the case for itAbility to build a business case for initiating and developing therapeutic programs based on the assessment of unmet patient needs and associated market opportunitiesFinancial intuition to frame development costs, capital requirements, and value inflection points in ways that drive decisions.Exceptional communication skills to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences including investment committee, internal stakeholders, board members, investors, CROs, and to translate multimodal data into decisions.Fluency with AI/ML-driven discovery platforms and habitual use of agentic AI to accelerate research synthesis, planning, and communication.Clinical development and regulatory experience (first-in-human design, global regulatory interactions) highly valued; background in immunology, inflammation, dermatology, or women's health indications is a plus.
