EGEN-2784, a genetically engineered porcine kidney, is the Company’s lead program and is currently being evaluated in a multi-patient Expanded Access study at MGH. eGenesis is headquartered in Cambridge, MA.Position SummaryeGenesis is seeking a hands-on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support workplace health and safety programs at our Northwest, Indiana location. This position works closely with the Director of EHS to implement safety programs, conduct inspections, investigate incidents, deliver training, and promote a proactive safety culture. The role supports a unique environment that includes GMP manufacturing operations, research laboratories, animal care operations, veterinary and surgical support areas, maintenance activities, and agricultural facilities. The ideal candidate enjoys being in the field, partnering with employees, and helping identify practical solutions that reduce risk and protect employees. This position offers the opportunity to build a broad EHS skill set while supporting a growing biotechnology company with diverse operations.Primary Responsibilities EHS Program SupportPartner with the Director of EHS to implement and continuously improve EHS programsPromote a positive safety culture through employee engagement and visible field presenceServe as a safety resource for employees and supervisorsSupport company safety committees and employee engagement initiativesRegulatory Compliance and Risk ManagementEnsure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulationsSupport and maintain safety programs for laboratory, GMP manufacturing, and agricultural operations, including areas where biological materials are handledConduct workplace inspections, compliance audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and reduce workplace riskConduct incident investigations, identify root causes, and assist departments in implementing corrective actionsAnimal Care OperationsSupport employee health and safety programs for animal care, veterinary, and agricultural operationsConduct workplace inspections and job hazard assessments involving animal handling, disinfectants, compressed gases, chemicals, powered equipment, and ergonomic tasksAssist with PPE selection, respiratory protection, and employee safety trainingWork collaboratively with Operations, Animal Resources, and Facilities to identify and reduce workplace risksTraining and SOP DevelopmentDevelop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering laboratory safety, chemical safety, emergency preparedness, and other EHS-related topicsCreate and revise safety-related SOPs for integration into Qualio/Veeva (controlled document management system)Program ImplementationMaintain EHS records, metrics, and documentation to support regulatory compliance and continuous improvementSupport the administration of EHS management systems (e.g., VelocityEHS) for chemical inventory management, incident reporting, and regulatory complianceAssist in emergency preparedness planning and drills across sitesContinuous ImprovementStay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in EHSIdentify opportunities to improve EHS programs processes, and employee engagementBasic QualificationsBachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field preferred3+ years of occupational health and safety experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, GMP manufacturing, laboratory, healthcare, veterinary, or similar regulated environmentsWorking knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management principlesStrong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting OSHA compliance in regulated manufacturing, laboratory, or animal care environmentsExperience supporting GMP manufacturing operationsExperience with laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, and hazardous waste managementExperience supporting animal care, agricultural, or veterinary operationsFamiliarity with biosafety principles and regulated research environmentsASP or other professional safety certifications are preferredWORK ENVIRONMENTThis position is based in Northwest, Indiana and routinely works in office, laboratory, GMP manufacturing, animal care, veterinary, maintenance, and outdoor environments. The position requires frequent walking throughout the campus and occasional lifting, climbing, and use of personal protective equipment. Work may involve exposure to laboratory chemicals, biological materials, livestock, industrial equipment, disinfectants, and varying environmental conditions while following established safety procedures. Occasional travel to other company locations may be required.
