Equity Analyst - Hardware, Robotics & Deep Technology - MelbourneFirst dedicated Analyst hire at a Melbourne family office running a science-led, Global Equities strategy.Fundamental, high-conviction portfolio, with this analyst ideally mandated across hardware, semiconductors, robotics and the physical sciences.Working directly with the Portfolio Manager with broad ownership across research, idea generation and tooling.A Melbourne-based family office is adding its first dedicated Analyst alongside the Portfolio Manager, running a science-led, systematically risk-managed investment strategy in innovative, publicly traded companies. The approach is deliberately narrow and deep: strong fundamental conviction on a focused set of names, with systematic risk management wrapped around them. This hire will ideally focus on hardware, semiconductors, robotics and the physical sciences, with scope across the broader innovation universe.Working directly with the Portfolio Manager, the Analyst develops original investment theses that feed into buy and sell decisions across the book. This is end-to-end idea generation: sourcing, developing and pitching theses grounded in business models, competitive dynamics and secular trends, alongside financial modelling and valuation, forecasting company KPIs and forming independent price targets. Beyond core research, the role carries broader ownership than a typical analyst seat - cultivating relationships with sector experts and management teams, participating in key conferences, and taking a systems-minded approach to the research tooling that underpins the process. Some involvement with the portfolio's options and hedging overlay is expected over time. The successful candidate brings a strong academic track record in a technical field such as engineering, physics, computer science or mathematics, alongside around two years of investment research experience in technology companies - or an adjacent analytical path such as equity research, hedge fund, private equity, investment banking, or an engineering or quantitative role, with a clear intent to move into investing. A good understanding of at least one technology sector at both a technical and business level is expected; hardware, semiconductors or robotics is welcome, though technical instinct matters more than existing coverage. Comfort with code and genuine interest in owning and improving research tooling are important, and some familiarity with options and hedging is a plus. Interpersonally, this is a seat for someone entrepreneurial and self-driven, comfortable taking ownership from day one, and who can articulate a technical thesis with the clarity a non-specialist audience needs. For a confidential conversation please contact Luke Pearce at luke.pearce@platinumpacificpartners.com.au
