Role DescriptionA Farm Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of farm operations to ensure productive, efficient, safe, and sustainable agricultural activities. The role oversees crop production, livestock operations where applicable, farm personnel, equipment, supplies, budgets, maintenance, health and safety, and compliance with agricultural standards and regulations. The Farm Manager works closely with farm workers, agronomists, veterinarians, suppliers, contractors, buyers, government agencies, and management to achieve production targets, maintain product quality, control costs, and support the long-term development of the farm.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, coordinate, and oversee day-to-day farm operations and agricultural activities.Develop seasonal and annual production plans based on farm capacity, market requirements, weather conditions, and business objectives.Manage crop production activities including land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, crop maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.Oversee livestock operations where applicable, including feeding, breeding, housing, health monitoring, vaccination, and general animal care.Monitor crop growth, soil conditions, pest activity, diseases, weather conditions, and overall farm productivity.Develop and implement appropriate crop protection, pest management, disease prevention, and agricultural practices.Coordinate irrigation, water management, drainage, soil management, fertilization, and other farm resource requirements.Monitor crop yields, livestock productivity, production quality, and operational performance against established targets.Supervise, schedule, and coordinate farm workers, seasonal employees, contractors, and other agricultural personnel.Allocate daily tasks, monitor work performance, provide training, and ensure farm activities are completed safely and efficiently.Maintain accurate records of planting, harvesting, livestock, fertilizer, pesticide, feed, irrigation, production, inventory, and farm activities.Monitor and manage farm inventory, including seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, animal feed, veterinary supplies, tools, spare parts, and other agricultural materials.Coordinate purchasing and procurement of farm supplies, equipment, services, and agricultural inputs.Liaise with suppliers, agricultural contractors, equipment providers, transport companies, buyers, and other external service providers.Monitor the quality and availability of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, feed, livestock supplies, and other agricultural inputs.Operate or oversee the use of tractors, agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, harvesting equipment, and other farm machinery.Ensure farm equipment, vehicles, machinery, buildings, irrigation systems, storage facilities, and other assets are properly maintained.Schedule preventive maintenance, repairs, servicing, inspections, and replacement of farm equipment and infrastructure.Monitor farm operating costs, labor expenses, input costs, equipment costs, and other operational expenditures.Assist with farm budgeting, financial planning, cost analysis, production forecasting, and resource allocation.Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, control costs, and optimize the use of land, labor, water, equipment, and agricultural inputs.Monitor harvesting schedules and coordinate post-harvest handling, grading, sorting, storage, packaging, and transportation where applicable.Ensure agricultural products meet required quality, safety, grading, and customer specifications.Coordinate the transportation and delivery of agricultural products to buyers, markets, processing facilities, or distribution centers.Monitor weather forecasts, seasonal conditions, market developments, and agricultural trends that may affect production and farm operations.Implement sustainable farming practices, soil conservation, water-efficiency measures, waste-management programs, and environmentally responsible agricultural methods.Ensure the responsible handling, storage, application, and disposal of fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals, fuel, animal feed, and other agricultural materials.Maintain compliance with applicable agricultural, environmental, occupational health and safety, animal welfare, food safety, and employment requirements.Conduct regular inspections of fields, livestock areas, storage facilities, machinery, buildings, and farm infrastructure.Identify operational, environmental, equipment, livestock, crop, and workplace risks and implement appropriate preventive measures.Maintain workplace health and safety standards and provide appropriate safety training and procedures for farm employees.Coordinate with veterinarians, agronomists, agricultural consultants, laboratories, and other specialists where required.Monitor livestock health, animal welfare, breeding performance, feed consumption, mortality, and veterinary requirements where applicable.Monitor soil testing, crop testing, water quality, laboratory analysis, and other agricultural assessments where required.Prepare farm production reports, yield reports, labor records, inventory reports, expense reports, and operational performance summaries.Maintain accurate digital and physical records relating to farm production, employees, equipment, supplies, compliance, and financial activities.Use farm-management software, agricultural monitoring systems, GPS technology, weather platforms, inventory systems, spreadsheets, and digital reporting tools.Utilize precision agriculture, farm automation, remote monitoring, drones, satellite imagery, data analytics, smart irrigation, and AI-assisted agricultural technologies where appropriate.Evaluate agricultural data and operational performance to support informed decisions regarding planting, irrigation, fertilization, harvesting, resource allocation, and production planning.Support farm expansion, development, land improvement, infrastructure projects, new crop initiatives, and agricultural investment projects.Maintain professional relationships with farm employees, landowners, suppliers, buyers, government agencies, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.Maintain confidentiality of business plans, production data, financial information, supplier arrangements, customer information, and other sensitive farm information.Provide leadership, guidance, training, and support to farm employees while promoting a productive and professional working environment.Perform other agricultural, operational, administrative, and management duties as assigned.QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, Farm Management, Agricultural Science, or a related field.Previous experience in farm management, agricultural operations, crop production, livestock management, or a similar role is preferred.Strong practical knowledge of farming practices, crop production, soil management, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and agricultural operations.Knowledge of livestock management, animal health, breeding, nutrition, and welfare is advantageous for farms with livestock operations.Good understanding of agricultural machinery, equipment, irrigation systems, farm infrastructure, and maintenance requirements.Strong knowledge of agricultural health, safety, environmental, food-safety, and regulatory requirements.Strong leadership, team-management, organizational, and workforce coordination skills.Excellent planning and time-management skills with the ability to manage seasonal workloads and changing operational priorities.Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in response to weather, pest, disease, equipment, labor, or production issues.Good understanding of farm budgeting, cost control, inventory management, and agricultural resource planning.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, suppliers, buyers, contractors, consultants, and authorities.Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate production, inventory, employee, and operational records.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, farm-management software, digital reporting tools, and other relevant agricultural technologies.Familiarity with precision agriculture, GPS systems, drones, farm automation, agricultural data analytics, smart farming technologies, and AI-assisted agricultural tools is beneficial.Ability to work outdoors and adapt to changing weather, seasonal conditions, and physically demanding farm environments.Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, public holidays, and peak agricultural seasons when required.Valid driver's license and ability to operate agricultural
