Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface (BCI) platform that records brain activity at the highest possibleresolution: the individual neuron. AI algorithms then decode this massive amount ofbrain-data, enabling the seamless translation of thought into treatments.Our first clinical application, the Connexus BCI, will help people who are unable tospeak, due to progressive neuromuscular disease and neural injuries such as ALS,spinal cord injuries and stroke, to communicate independently through digital devices.However, the capabilities of our BCI platform go far beyond our first application. Withthe brain in direct communication with digital devices, we can leverage technology totransform how we treat conditions ranging from sensory and motor deficits tountreatable mental illness.The RoleThe Field Clinical Engineer (Clinical Neurotechnology Research Assistant) serves asParadromics’ trusted technical presence at U.S. clinical sites during early feasibility andfirst-in-human studies. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Affairs, this field-based rolesupports safe, reliable use of Paradromics’ implantable BCI system and associatedsoftware during surgical procedures, study visits, and neural data collection sessions.This role acts as a critical bridge between clinicians and engineers—ensuring real-worldclinical learnings are captured, clearly communicated, and translated into system,process, and risk-management improvements. The position requires significant travel toclinical sites and the ability to operate independently in high-stakes, patient-facingenvironments.ResponsibilitiesServe as the in-field technical representative during early feasibility study (EFS)procedures, study visits, and neural recording sessions, working closely withparticipants, clinical site teams, and Paradromics colleagues.Prepare, configure, calibrate, operate, and break down study systemsconsistently and correctly, completing appropriate system checks and confirmingreadiness for clinical and recording sessions.Support the design, execution, and refinement of neural recording and BCIsession workflows to generate high-quality, consistent, and analyzable neuraldata.Monitor neural signals and system performance in real time, recognizing signalloss, artifacts, unexpected behavior, or configuration issues that could affectsession quality.Troubleshoot hardware, software, device, connectivity, and signal-quality issuesin real time within clinical environments, applying sound judgment and escalatingappropriately when additional support is needed.Develop a strong understanding of the relationship between systemconfiguration, neural signals, participant behavior, and task performance, usingobservations from sessions to help inform experimental workflows and decodingapproaches.Identify unexpected system behavior, workflow challenges, usability issues, andemerging risks early, and communicate them clearly to the appropriate teamsbefore they affect participant experience, safety, or study integrity.Capture and communicate field observations, technical issues, failure modes,usability feedback, and system limitations in a structured way that supportsengineering improvements and risk-management activities.Build strong relationships with study participants and their support networks,creating a professional, comfortable, and reliable experience during repeated andoften lengthy study sessions.Build trust and credibility with investigators, fellows, coordinators, and researchstaff through preparation, technical competence, sound judgment,responsiveness, and professionalism.Act as a critical feedback loop between the field and internal teams, translatingreal-world clinical and participant experiences into clear, actionable informationfor Engineering, Clinical Affairs, Data Science, and Quality.Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of training materials,field playbooks, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and workflows that enableconsistent execution across additional sites, field team members, and futurestudies.This role sits at the intersection of people and technology. We welcomecandidates coming from either a technical/engineering or clinical background.The strongest candidates will bring deep experience in one area, strong aptitudeand curiosity in the other, and enthusiasm for developing expertise across both.Required EducationBachelor’s degree in engineering, neuroscience, nursing, biomedical sciences, oranother relevant technical or clinical discipline, or equivalent combination ofeducation and hands-on experience.Advanced technical, clinical, or scientific training is welcomed but not required.Required QualificationsHands-on experience working with complex technology in clinical, research, orother human-facing environments, with a demonstrated ability to learn andoperate technical systems independently.Strong technical aptitude and curiosity, including the ability to understand systembehavior, investigate problems, and troubleshoot across hardware, software,connectivity, and data.Experience working directly with patients, research participants, clinicians, orother end users, with the interpersonal judgment and empathy needed to buildtrust during repeated interactions.Ability to recognize and assess data or signal-quality issues and work withtechnical teams to investigate their source; experience analyzing dataprogrammatically is beneficial but not required.Demonstrated ability to remain calm, thoughtful, and effective whentroubleshooting problems in participant-facing or other high-stakes environments.Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate technical conceptsfor clinical audiences and clinical/participant experiences for technical teams.Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow defined procedures,document observations, and escalate issues appropriately.Willingness and ability to travel extensively to U.S. clinical sites and supportstudy activities that may occur outside standard business hours.Preferred QualificationsExperience with neurotechnology or neuroscience systems, including neuralsignals, BCIs, EEG, ECoG, MEAs, neuromodulation, electrophysiology, or neuraldata-acquisition platforms.Clinical training or experience, such as nursing, clinical research, rehabilitation,neuroscience, or another patient-facing healthcare discipline.Technical experience with Python, MATLAB, signal processing, time-series data,data visualization, or similar analytical tools.Experience supporting medical devices, complex research equipment, or otherintegrated hardware/software systems in clinical or research environments.Exposure to early feasibility, first-in-human, or small-N clinical studies withheightened safety and regulatory oversight.Familiarity with GCP, IDE studies, and academic medical center or investigator-led research environments.Experience contributing to SOPs, field guides, troubleshooting resources, trainingmaterials, or onboarding programs.Demonstrated ability to operate independently in the field while maintainingstrong communication and partnership with a broader cross-functional team.Paradromics is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
