We're a small, fast-moving medical device company based in Oakland, California, expanding our technical field operations to support U.S. commercial growth and international market entry, and we're looking for talented, mission-driven people who want their work to matter in the clinic.Position Summary Promaxo is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Field Service Engineer/Technician to support installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of its point-of-care MRI systems at customer clinical sites. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Operations, this hands-on, customer-facing role requires strong technical troubleshooting capability and electromechanical skill, and ensures Promaxo's MRI-guided prostate biopsy platform performs reliably in real-world clinical environments — directly supporting patient care. You will document field events and provide feedback to engineering, operations, and quality teams to drive continuous improvement. This is a highly visible role well suited to a technically skilled individual who enjoys hands-on work, travel to customer sites, and being part of a mission-driven medical device company — whether an experienced technician or an early-career engineer looking to grow with a rapidly scaling company.Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Installation & Site ReadinessInstall, configure, and commission Promaxo MRI systems at customer clinical sites, including uncrating, setup, calibration, verification, and on-site acceptance testingConduct site assessments to ensure electrical, environmental, and space requirements are metCollaborate with facilities teams, contractors, and service partners to prepare customer sitesPreventive & Corrective MaintenancePerform routine preventive maintenance, mechanical alignment, diagnostics, coil checks, and system calibrationsExecute corrective maintenance to resolve MRI system failures, subsystem malfunctions, image quality issues, firmware problems, and electrical/mechanical faultsDiagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and software-related equipment issues in the field, troubleshooting to identify root causes and restore system functionalityClinical & Customer SupportProvide on-site and remote technical support (phone, email, video, ticketing system) to clinical customersSupport clinicians and technologists during go-live, early adoption, and post-installation phasesTrain users on system operation, imaging workflow, daily checks, and safety practicesRepresent Promaxo professionally and provide a responsive, high-quality customer experienceTechnical Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate service logs, visit reports, system configurations, and maintenance documentationDocument service activities, parts usage, and issue resolution in Promaxo's quality, CRM, and ticketing systems in compliance with established proceduresDocument and escalate systemic issues to engineering and operations teamsCross-Functional CollaborationCoordinate with the Sr. Director of Operations and Engineering on recurring issues and product feedbackProvide field insights to design engineering, manufacturing, and product teams for continuous product improvementParticipate in new product introduction (NPI) builds, testing, and validation as requiredMaintain service tools, test equipment, and spare parts inventoryRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in biomedical, electrical, mechanical, computer, or systems engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline — or an Associate's degree in electronics, biomedical equipment technology, or a related field with equivalent hands-on experience; equivalent military or advanced technical training also considered1–5 years of experience servicing complex electromechanical systems (medical imaging preferred)Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, including safe use of multimeters and other diagnostic tools; ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematicsFamiliarity with mechanical assembly, cabling, alignment, computer-based diagnostic systems, and basic software troubleshootingStrong mechanical aptitude and a structured approach to diagnosing complex system issues, with strong attention to detail and the ability to follow documented procedures and safety protocolsClear written and verbal communication skills suitable for customer-facing and clinical environmentsWillingness to travel up to 70% domestically for installations and service support, including occasional overnight travelValid driver's license and ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely in technical installation and clinical environmentsPreferred QualificationsField service experience with MRI, CT, ultrasound, radiation therapy, automation, or other regulated capital equipmentExposure to FDA-regulated medical devices, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, or controlled service/QSR documentationExperience performing calibrations, PQ/OQ testing, and acceptance/validation protocolsExperience working in hospitals, imaging centers, ambulatory surgical centers, laboratories, or other controlled clinical customer environmentsBasic understanding of MRI or other imaging technologyRelevant technical certifications (e.g., biomedical equipment technician certification)Training, Benefits & Career Growth At Promaxo, you'll get hands-on, product-specific training and the tools you need to succeed from day one — plus real investment in where you go next.
