Team members join a growing business that values collaboration, innovation, and long-term customer relationships.Role Description The Finance Assistant (Credit Control & Purchase Ledger) is a full-time, on-site role based in Padiham, supporting the day-to-day financial operations of Greenarc Fuel Cards. Responsibilities include managing customer accounts, monitoring outstanding balances, and conducting credit control activities such as sending statements, following up on overdue payments, and resolving queries promptly and professionally. The role also covers purchase ledger duties, including processing supplier invoices, reconciling statements, preparing payments, and maintaining accurate financial records. The Finance Assistant collaborates closely with the wider finance and operations teams to ensure timely invoicing, efficient cash flow, and compliance with internal controls and procedures. This position requires a detail-focused approach, clear communication with customers and colleagues, and a commitment to reliable, high-quality financial support. Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Finance Assistant (Credit Control & Purchase Ledger) is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business by managing customer debt, maintaining accurate purchase ledger records and helping to ensure healthy cash flow. This is a hands-on operational role with the opportunity to develop into a more senior position as the business continues to grow.As experience and knowledge develop, there will be opportunities to take ownership of wider credit management responsibilities, contribute to process improvements and support strategic financial decision-making.Key ResponsibilitiesCredit ControlMonitor customer accounts and outstanding balances.Chase overdue invoices by telephone and email in a professional manner.Allocate incoming customer payments accurately.Reconcile customer accounts and investigate discrepancies.Resolve customer account queries efficiently.Negotiate payment arrangements where appropriate.Produce aged debtor reports for review.Escalate overdue or high-risk accounts to the Finance Manager or Finance Director.Assist with legal recovery processes and external debt collection agencies where required.Build positive working relationships with customers whilst maintaining effective credit control procedures.Purchase LedgerProcess supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner.Match purchase orders, delivery notes and supplier invoices.Resolve supplier invoice queries.Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies.Prepare supplier payment runs for approval.Maintain accurate supplier records.Support month-end purchase ledger processes and reconciliations.Assist with other finance administration as required.Development OpportunitiesAs you develop within the role, you will have the opportunity to:Support customer credit assessments and credit limit reviews.Analyse debtor performance and identify trends.Recommend improvements to credit control and purchase ledger processes.Produce management reporting and cash collection analysis.Assist with the implementation of new finance systems and automation.Work closely with senior management to support commercial decision-making.Progress towards taking ownership of the wider credit management function, including credit policy development, customer risk management and process optimisation.Key Skills & ExperiencePrevious experience within Credit Control, Purchase Ledger or a similar finance role.Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.Strong organisational and time management skills.Confident communicator with excellent telephone and written communication skills.Ability to build positive relationships with customers and suppliers.Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.Comfortable adopting new technologies, including AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, to improve efficiencyExperience using accounting software (Business Central or similar) would be advantageous.A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.What We OfferCompetitive salary25 days annual leave, increasing with service (up to 30 days)Salary sacrifice pension scheme Company healthcare scheme (following probation) Early finish on Fridays Breakfast Club Perkbox rewards Free onsite parking Ongoing training and development
