Financial Controller

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a technically strong Financial Controller to join a well-established engineering business based in Wolverhampton, West Midlands.Reporting directly to the CFO, this role offers significant visibility across the organisation and the opportunity to influence operational and strategic decision-making while leading a capable finance team.This position would particularly suit an ACA qualified accountant seeking a move to FC level within a broad commercial leadership role, or an experienced Financial Controller looking to join a business undergoing continued growth and transformation.As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial control, high-quality reporting and insightful analysis that supports business performance.You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation, providing commercial challenge, driving process improvements and supporting key strategic projects.Key responsibilities will include:Leading the month-end, year-end and statutory reporting processesManaging budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning activitiesDelivering high-quality financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-makingOverseeing cash flow forecasting and treasury managementLeading external audit relationships and statutory compliance requirementsManaging VAT, corporation tax and payroll complianceSupporting group reporting and ensuring strong financial controls across the businessDriving improvements in financial reporting, systems and ERP capabilityIdentifying opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency and business performanceLeading and developing a high-performing finance teamWe are looking for a commercially minded finance professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with the ability to influence and partner with stakeholders across the business.You will ideally possess:ACA qualification (ideally acquired within a Big Four or Top 10 practice environment)Strong technical financial reporting and statutory accounting knowledgeExperience operating within a group reporting environmentExcellent analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesAdvanced Excel and financial modelling skillsExperience partnering with operational and non-finance stakeholdersA proactive and continuous improvement mindsetStrong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teamsWhat's on offer: £85,000 - £95,000 plus car allowance, bonus, benefitsBased in Wolverhampton (hybrid) Desired Skills and ExperienceQualified accountant, ACA, CA, ICAEW, Financial Controller, Finance Manager, manufacturing, WolverhamptonAt Gleeson Recruitment Group, we embrace inclusivity and welcome applicants of all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.
