Working at the intersection of corporate finance, project finance, valuation, and investment analysis, the team evaluates opportunities across energy, water, food security, and critical infrastructure.The department works closely with deal teams, operating partners, portfolio companies, and senior stakeholders to translate operational and commercial assumptions into robust financial analysis and investment recommendations.Role SummaryThe Financial Modeling Specialist – Valuation will support investment decision-making across Imbono’s emerging-markets project portfolio.The role will be responsible for building, maintaining, and stress-testing sophisticated financial models that underpin capital allocation decisions across large-scale energy, water, food, and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in valuation, project finance, and investment analysis, with the ability to assess opportunities and risks in complex, high-growth emerging markets.ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain project finance models, including DCF, LBO, M&A, and greenfield/brownfield infrastructure models.Lead valuation workstreams using DCF, comparable company analysis, precedent transactions, and sum-of-the-parts methodologies.Model capital structures, debt sizing, and repayment schedules for infrastructure and project finance transactions.Conduct scenario, sensitivity, and Monte Carlo analyses to assess downside risks across emerging-market variables, including FX, sovereign risk, commodity prices, and regulatory changes.Partner with deal teams, operating partners, and portfolio companies to translate operational assumptions into financial projections.Prepare valuation outputs and investment recommendations for Investment Committee and Board presentations.Support due diligence processes for new investments and portfolio monitoring for existing assets.Benchmark project returns, including IRR, NPV, MOIC, and payback, against fund and platform hurdle rates.Maintain strong model governance standards, including version control, documentation, and audit trails across the portfolio.Experience4–8 years of relevant experience in finance and/or financial departments, ideally within investment banking, private equity, infrastructure/project finance, or a Big Four valuation or transaction advisory practice.Demonstrated expertise in building DCF, LBO, and project finance models from scratch rather than relying solely on templates.Strong command of Excel and financial modelling best practices, including dynamic, auditable, and error-checked models.Experience valuing Oil & Gas and critical infrastructure assets, as well as related service contracts, in emerging markets such as Africa, Latin America, MENA, or South/Southeast Asia is strongly preferred.Familiarity with infrastructure, energy, water, or food-security sectors is a significant advantage.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial analysis clearly to senior stakeholders and Investment Committees.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Accounting, or another relevant quantitative discipline.MBA, CFA, ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification is a strong advantage.SkillsAdvanced financial modelling and valuation capabilities.DCF, LBO, M&A, and project finance modelling.Comparable company and precedent transaction analysis.Capital structure, debt sizing, and repayment modelling.Scenario, sensitivity, and Monte Carlo analysis.Strong Excel and financial modelling best practices.Investment return analysis, including IRR, NPV, MOIC, and payback.Model governance, documentation, version control, and audit trails.Ability to translate operational and commercial assumptions into robust financial projections.Strong analytical and presentation skills for Investment Committee and Board-level audiences.Experience with capital raising, debt structuring, or blended finance in emerging markets is an advantage.Experience modelling cash flows for Multilateral/DFI-backed projects, such as IFC, DFC, and Afreximbank, is an advantage.Working knowledge of English, Arabic, French, or Portuguese is advantageous given Imbono’s geographic footprint.Our ValuesClient OrientedExcellenceInnovationIntegrityPerseveranceWe believe that diversity strengthens our organisation and we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.
