Apply & track with Apply EdgeJOB DESCRIPTION – FIRE & LIFTING INSTRUCTOR / ASSESSOR Position: OPITO Instructor – Offshore & Helideck Emergency Response | Banksman & Slinger | Rigging Reports To: Operations In charge / Centre Manager Employment Type : Full-Time Courses / Disciplines The Instructor/Assessor shall be competent/eligible to deliver/assess the following courses as per the OPITO Product Specification & staff requirements: OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Member/Leader (OERTM/TL) training OPITO Helideck Emergency Response Team Member/Leader (HERTM/TL) training OPITO Banksman & Slinger training and assessment OPITO Rigging training and assessment Key Responsibilities Plan, deliver and assess theoretical and practical training in accordance with approved course programmes, OPITO Standards, legislation, company procedures and client requirements. Ensure training and assessments meet specified learning outcomes, assessment criteria and required competency standards. Ensure the safety and welfare of delegates and staff, stopping activities where unacceptable risks arise. Conduct/review task risk assessments, implement controls, and deliver toolbox talks before practical activities. Ensure training areas, simulators, lifting/firefighting equipment, PPE, tools and resources are available, suitable and safe for use. Maintain occupational competence and current knowledge of OPITO Standards, legislation, industry practices and accreditation requirements. Maintain course materials, lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises and assessment documentation in accordance with approved standards and centre procedures. Conduct fair and consistent learner assessments and maintain accurate, confidential and secure training and assessment records. Participate in standardization meetings, competence assessments, observations, coaching, internal quality assurance and ongoing CPD activities. Report hazards, incidents, equipment defects, training deficiencies and non-conformities, and support corrective actions. Collaborate with instructors, technicians and operational staff to ensure safe and efficient training delivery. Undertake other training and assessment duties within documented occupational competence, as assigned by management. Essential Instructor must: Fully understand the requirements of the applicable OPITO Industry Standards for the courses being delivered. Possess demonstrable occupational competence and relevant industry experience in: Firefighting and emergency response operations, preferably at supervisory/team-leader level; Helideck/helicopter emergency response operations; Banksman & Slinger operations; and Rigging operations. Be occupationally competent for delivery of the respective OPITO Products. Be trained in instructional/training techniques and have proven instructing/teaching experience. Be included in an ongoing training and development program to ensure continued awareness of changes to relevant legislation, OPITO Products and industry requirements. Undertake and maintain documented Continuing Professional Development (CPD) relevant to the courses and occupational disciplines being delivered. Demonstrate effective communication, presentation, coaching and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with delegates from different cultural and professional backgrounds. Be fluent in written and spoken English. Assessor Requirements Hold an industry-recognized assessor qualification. Fully understand the relevant OPITO Industry Standard and its assessment requirements. Fully understand the OPITO-approved Centre's internal quality assurance (IQA) processes and assessment practices. Fully understand and comply with OPITO requirements for recording assessment decisions and securely maintaining accurate assessment records. Conduct assessments objectively, consistently and strictly against the prescribed performance and assessment criteria. Participate in regular assessor standardization meetings/events to maintain a consistent approach to assessment. Participate in internal verification/IQA activities and implement any identified corrective or improvement actions. Banksman & Slinger and Rigging Competence Requirements Fully understand the requirements of the applicable OPITO Industry Standard. Be occupationally competent as a Banksman & Slinger and Rigger. Be trained in instructional/evaluation techniques and have proven instructing/teaching experience. Maintain current knowledge of relevant lifting operations, legislation, industry practices and OPITO requirements through ongoing training and development. Hold an industry-recognized assessor qualification when conducting assessments. Understand and comply with the Approved Centre's internal quality-assurance processes and practices. Understand OPITO requirements for recording assessment decisions and securely maintaining accurate assessment records. Participate in regular standardization activities to ensure consistent assessment practices. Undertake and record relevant CPD. Emergency Response Instructor Requirements Possess occupational expertise and proven experience in firefighting and emergency response operations, preferably at supervisory/team-leader level. Possess practical knowledge and relevant experience of helicopter/helideck emergency response operations. Maintain current knowledge of offshore/onshore oil & gas emergency-response practices and relevant changes in industry requirements. Demonstrate competence in the practical emergency-response activities for which training is being delivered. Qualifications Graduate or equivalent qualification. NEBOSH IGC or equivalent HSE qualification. Recognized Train-the-Trainer / instructional qualification. Relevant occupational experience and competency certificates in Emergency Response, Helideck, Banksman & Slinger and Rigging. Industry-recognised Assessor qualification for personnel conducting assessments. Preferable relevant valid OPITO and Internal Auditor certification will be an advantage. Physical and Medical Fitness The Instructor must be physically and medically fit to undertake all training activities and meet applicable offshore medical fitness requirements, as occasional offshore travel may be required for training delivery. Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be a versatile multi-discipline Instructor/Assessor with substantial oil & gas/offshore/industry experience who can independently deliver both classroom and practical training across Emergency Response, Helideck Emergency Response, Banksman & Slinger and Rigging disciplines while maintaining high standards of safety, instructional quality and OPITO compliance.
