Ace Technologies builds long-term relationships by matching the right professionals to the right roles and supporting both contract and permanent hiring model.Role Description This is an on-site, contract role for a Firmware Engineer (C++, Cortex-M & STM32) based in Chicago, IL. The Firmware Engineer will design, implement, and maintain embedded software for STM32 and other Cortex-M microcontrollers using C and C++, ensuring reliable operation of hardware-based products. Daily responsibilities include developing and optimizing low-level drivers, integrating firmware with hardware components, and performing thorough debugging, testing, and validation of embedded systems. The person in this role will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and cross-functional teams to define requirements, review schematics, and ensure seamless hardware–software integration. Additional tasks may include documenting firmware architectures, supporting design reviews, and contributing to continuous improvement of development processes and performance standards.QualificationsStrong embedded software skills, including Embedded Software development and general Software Development in C/C++ for microcontrollers.Hands-on experience with ARM Architecture, especially Cortex-M families, and practical knowledge of STM32 platforms and toolchains.Proficiency in debugging embedded systems, including use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and related diagnostic tools.Foundational understanding of Electrical Engineering concepts relevant to firmware design, such as digital electronics, interfaces, and power considerations.Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), interrupt-driven design, and low-power firmware techniques is highly beneficial.Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), structured documentation practices, and collaborative development workflows.Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work on-site in cross-functional teams in Chicago, IL.
