Fleet Manager

FLEET MANAGERFull-Time | On-Site | Saddle Brook, New JerseyChefler Foods is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the safety, maintenance, compliance, and day-to-day management of our commercial vehicle fleet.The Fleet Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate fleet records, monitoring vehicle condition and performance, coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs, managing Samsara fleet systems, and ensuring tractors, trailers, straight trucks, refrigerated equipment, and other fleet assets remain safe, compliant, and operational.This is a hands-on role requiring strong organization, attention to detail, knowledge of commercial fleet operations, and the ability to work closely with drivers, dispatch, transportation leadership, maintenance providers, and outside vendors.What You’ll Do

• Manage the day-to-day condition, maintenance, compliance, and availability of the company fleet.
• Oversee tractors, trailers, straight trucks, refrigerated trucks and trailers, pups, day cabs, over-the-road equipment, and other commercial fleet assets.
• Manage and maintain Samsara fleet data, vehicle records, maintenance information, safety events, inspections, and related reporting.
• Maintain complete and accurate service histories, preventive maintenance records, inspection records, repair documentation, and vehicle files.
• Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules based on mileage, engine hours, manufacturer recommendations, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate routine maintenance, emergency repairs, roadside service, towing, tire service, and outside repair vendors.
• Monitor vehicles for overdue maintenance, active defects, fault codes, inspection issues, and other conditions that could impact safety or reliability.
• Review driver vehicle inspection reports and ensure identified defects are documented, assigned, repaired, and closed out appropriately.
• Ensure vehicles and equipment meet applicable DOT, FMCSA, state, and company safety requirements.
• Maintain records related to registrations, inspections, permits, insurance, maintenance, and other fleet compliance requirements.
• Monitor Samsara safety data, including speeding, harsh driving events, seat belt compliance, distracted driving indicators, and other fleet safety metrics.
• Work with Transportation and Safety leadership to identify trends and address recurring driver or equipment-related safety concerns.
• Monitor fleet utilization, mileage, downtime, repair frequency, maintenance costs, and overall equipment performance.
• Identify vehicles with recurring mechanical issues and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
• Coordinate annual inspections, emissions requirements, registrations, and other scheduled fleet compliance activities.
• Maintain accurate inventory and asset records for tractors, trailers, trucks, and related equipment.
• Manage relationships with dealerships, repair facilities, tire vendors, leasing companies, towing providers, and other fleet service partners.
• Review maintenance and repair invoices for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Help control fleet maintenance costs while ensuring equipment is repaired properly and returned to service quickly.
• Work closely with Dispatch and Transportation teams to understand equipment needs and minimize operational disruptions.
• Ensure out-of-service equipment is clearly identified, documented, tracked, and not returned to operation until properly repaired.
• Assist with accident documentation, vehicle damage assessments, repair coordination, and related fleet records.
• Develop and maintain fleet procedures, maintenance standards, inspection processes, and recordkeeping practices.Safety & ComplianceThe Fleet Manager will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and compliant commercial fleet.Responsibilities include:
• Maintaining complete vehicle maintenance and service records.
• Monitoring DOT and annual inspection requirements.
• Ensuring preventive maintenance is completed on schedule.
• Reviewing and closing out vehicle defects and DVIR issues.
• Monitoring Samsara safety and vehicle-health information.
• Ensuring required repairs are completed before unsafe equipment returns to service.
• Supporting FMCSA and DOT compliance requirements related to fleet equipment.
• Maintaining organized records that are readily available for audits, inspections, and internal review.
• Partnering with Safety and Transportation leadership to reduce preventable incidents and improve fleet performance.What We’re Looking For
• 5+ years of experience in commercial fleet management, transportation, trucking, vehicle maintenance, or a related field.
• Experience managing a mixed commercial fleet including tractors, trailers, straight trucks, and refrigerated equipment.
• Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and commercial vehicle service requirements.
• Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA fleet safety and maintenance requirements.
• Experience with Samsara or a similar fleet management and telematics platform strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of vehicle inspections, DVIRs, maintenance documentation, and service records.
• Professional working proficiency in Spanish is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with drivers, employees, vendors, and operational teams.
• Ability to identify maintenance and safety issues and ensure they are resolved promptly.
• Strong vendor-management and repair-coordination skills.
• Excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work with fleet-management systems, spreadsheets, reports, and electronic records.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transportation environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, vendors, and leadership.
• High level of accountability, follow-through, and attention to detail.Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with Class 8 tractors, yard trucks, straight trucks, pup trailers, dry vans, and refrigerated trailers.
• Experience managing maintenance vendors and outside repair facilities.
• Knowledge of fleet cost analysis, vehicle lifecycle management, and equipment replacement planning.
• CDL or prior commercial driving experience is a plus but not required.Who Will Be Successful HereThe successful Fleet Manager will be organized, proactive, safety-focused, and comfortable taking ownership of a large commercial fleet.This person should know where every vehicle stands — what is due for service, what is currently being repaired, what has an outstanding defect, what can safely operate, and what needs immediate attention.The right candidate understands that strong fleet management is not simply fixing trucks when they break. It is maintaining the records, systems, inspections, preventive maintenance, and follow-through required to keep equipment safe, compliant, reliable, and available for operation.Work Environment
