Role DescriptionA Flight Engineer is responsible for monitoring, operating, and supporting the technical performance of an aircraft's propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, environmental, and other onboard engineering systems. The role involves continuous system monitoring, technical troubleshooting, performance management, and coordination with pilots and maintenance personnel to support safe and efficient aircraft operations.Key responsibilities include monitoring aircraft engines, generators, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, fuel systems, pressurization, environmental control systems, anti-ice systems, auxiliary power systems, and other aircraft engineering systems during flight; operating and adjusting aircraft systems in accordance with approved flight procedures and technical requirements; monitoring engine parameters, temperatures, pressures, fuel consumption, electrical loads, hydraulic quantities, system indications, and other technical data; identifying abnormal indications, equipment malfunctions, system failures, and developing technical conditions during flight; communicating technical information and system status to the flight crew; supporting pilots in managing aircraft systems during normal, abnormal, and emergency operating conditions; performing pre-flight and post-flight technical inspections and system checks as applicable; reviewing aircraft technical logs, maintenance records, system status, and deferred defects; coordinating with aircraft maintenance engineers, maintenance control centers, dispatch teams, and technical support personnel regarding aircraft system conditions; supporting troubleshooting and technical decision-making related to aircraft systems; assisting with aircraft performance monitoring, fuel management, power management, and system optimization; ensuring aircraft systems are operated within approved technical limitations and procedures; documenting technical events, system abnormalities, maintenance requirements, and operational observations; supporting Aircraft-On-Ground (AOG) recovery and technical coordination where required; participating in simulator training, technical briefings, emergency exercises, recurrent training, and competency assessments; utilizing aircraft monitoring systems, electronic flight documentation, computerized maintenance systems, digital diagnostic tools, aircraft health-monitoring technologies, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and real-time aircraft data where applicable; monitoring emerging aviation technologies, advanced avionics, automation, digital aircraft systems, hybrid-electric propulsion, and next-generation aircraft technologies; maintaining strong situational awareness and technical discipline throughout flight operations; supporting safety investigations, reliability programs, technical reviews, and operational improvement initiatives; and continuously improving aircraft system knowledge, technical procedures, operational safety, and engineering performance.The Flight Engineer is expected to combine extensive aircraft systems knowledge with technical precision, situational awareness, communication, and sound decision-making. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of aircraft engineering systems, disciplined adherence to procedures, effective teamwork with the flight crew, and an uncompromising commitment to aviation safety.QualificationsBachelor's degree, diploma, or recognized technical qualification in Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.Valid Flight Engineer license, certification, or authorization issued or recognized by the applicable aviation authority where required.Strong understanding of aircraft propulsion, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, environmental, pressurization, and auxiliary systems.Strong knowledge of aircraft instrumentation, system indications, engine parameters, technical limitations, and operating procedures.Excellent technical troubleshooting, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.Ability to interpret aircraft technical manuals, flight manuals, system diagrams, checklists, maintenance documentation, and engineering publications.Strong understanding of aviation regulations, operational procedures, aircraft limitations, safety requirements, and human factors.Ability to monitor multiple aircraft systems simultaneously and recognize abnormal or unsafe conditions.Excellent communication and crew-resource-management skills.Ability to coordinate effectively with pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, dispatchers, maintenance control centers, and technical support teams.Familiarity with electronic flight bags, aircraft health-monitoring systems, computerized maintenance systems, digital technical documentation, and diagnostic technologies.Knowledge of artificial intelligence, predictive maintenance, aircraft data analytics, automation, digital twins, and advanced aircraft monitoring systems is advantageous.Understanding of modern propulsion technologies, advanced avionics, hybrid-electric aircraft, sustainable aviation technologies, and next-generation aircraft systems is beneficial.Strong knowledge of emergency procedures, abnormal operations, technical failure management, and aircraft system recovery procedures.High level of discipline, technical accuracy, situational awareness, reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.Strong ability to remain calm and make appropriate technical decisions in time-critical operational situations.Relevant aviation, engineering, safety, or aircraft systems certifications are considered advantageous.Strong commitment to continuous training and staying informed about aircraft technology, aviation regulations, advanced propulsion, avionics, automation, predictive maintenance, and modern flight engineering practices.
