Founding AI Scientist - Pathology Foundation Models Remote (Must be US Based) The RoleYou will lead the strategy and development of pathology foundation models, shaping how they are designed, trained, evaluated, and deployed into clinical and pharmaceutical applications.This is a highly cross-functional role spanning research and production. You will define how foundation models integrate with biological context, multimodal data, and downstream decision-making systems moving beyond isolated model improvements to building end-to-end, real-world solutions.As an early-stage hire, you will play a key role in shaping both the technical direction and the organisation itself.Required ExperienceStrong publication record in machine learning, including multiple first-author papers at leading conferences or journalsDeep understanding of modern ML architectures (e.g. transformers, attention mechanisms, state-space models, mixture-of-experts)Experience working with GPU clusters and large-scale ML infrastructure (e.g. Kubernetes, SLURM, or similar)Solid software engineering skills and ability to build production-grade systemsExcellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and scientific audiencesPreferred BackgroundExperience in oncology, cancer biology, or drug developmentExposure to biomedical or healthcare foundation modelsExperience with multimodal and cross-modal learning systemsFamiliarity with healthcare regulatory frameworks (e.g. FDA, HIPAA)Contributions to open-source ML ecosystemsExperience working with distributed or community-driven research groupsPrevious experience in a startup or early-stage environmentTo apply please reach out to Sam Shinner at Discover International
