Headquartered in Amsterdam, the company partners with hospitals and distributors across Europe and the Middle East and is expanding its team of roboticists, engineers, and infection prevention experts.Role Description As a Freelance ROS 2 Engineer at Ryberg, you will work on-site in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, under a contract arrangement to develop, integrate, and optimize ROS 2-based software for autonomous UV-C disinfection robots. You will implement and refine navigation, perception, and control modules, ensuring reliable robot operation in complex hospital and cleanroom environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing and testing ROS 2 nodes, integrating hardware drivers, debugging system-level issues, and collaborating closely with robotics, firmware, and safety engineering teams. You will help adapt and localize robot behavior to customer sites, support on-site deployments and pilots, and contribute to documentation and best practices for maintainable, production-ready code.Qualifications Strong ROS 2 development skills, including node creation, topics/services, and launch files for real-world robotic applications.Experience with robot navigation and perception (e.g., SLAM, path planning, sensor fusion, LiDAR or camera integration).Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for robotics software, with solid debugging, profiling, and optimization capabilities.Knowledge of Linux-based development environments, build systems (colcon, CMake), and version control (Git).Understanding of safety, reliability, and real-time considerations in autonomous systems, ideally in healthcare or industrial settings.Ability to work on-site in Dubai, interact with clinical and technical stakeholders, and support robot deployment and testing in live environments.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with a focus on clear documentation and maintainable code.Experience with UV-C or medical devices, ISO or IEC safety standards, or hospital workflows is a plus.Prior freelance or consulting experience, including managing deliverables, timelines, and stakeholder expectations, is advantageous.
