Own and manage the dry-bulk freight desk, chartering vessel tonnage (Handysize to Capesize) through voyage charters, time charters, and Contracts of Affreightment (COAs). Maintain P&L accountability for the freight desk, driving margin generation, route arbitrage, and total landed-cost optimization across physical trade flows. Manage freight and fuel exposure using Forward Freight Agreements (FFAs), bunker hedging, and mark-to-market risk controls within approved limits. Partner with procurement to design, tender, and structure end-to-end multimodal supply chain networks from mine-site and port of loading to global destination ports. Build and cultivate relationships with global shipowners, disponent owners, shipbrokers, port operators, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers. Oversee post-fixture operations, including vessel nominations, laytime/demurrage/despatch calculations, statement of facts review, and commercial claims resolution. Deliver market intelligence, freight-rate forecasts, and route-economics analysis based on Baltic Exchange indices, supply/demand balances, and bunker dynamics. Structure logistics service agreements, set operational SLAs and KPIs, and lead vendor qualification and evaluation processes. Ensure strict adherence to international sanctions, KYC regulations, maritime insurance obligations, and marine decarbonization/emissions standards (CII/EEXI). Lead, coach, and mentor desk analysts while establishing strong governance, controls, and reporting frameworks for the freight function.
