About usHong Kong Quantum AI Lab (HKQAI) is an R&D centre jointly established by The University of Hong Kong and the California Institute of Technology.About the roleYou will develop and test materials for next-generation fuel cells, with a particular focus on hydrogen fuel cells. Research areas include electrocatalysts, electrode materials and membrane electrode assemblies, spanning materials preparation and characterisation through to evaluation in fuel cells.Experience with proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs), or metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOF-derived catalysts would be an advantage, but is not essential.We are looking for someone withA PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, electrochemistry or a related discipline from a top institutionHands-on experience in the preparation and electrochemical testing of catalysts, electrodes or other materials for fuel cells or related energy-conversion applicationsStrong evidence of scientific excellence through publications, research achievements or industrial R&DKey responsibilitiesDesign, prepare and characterise catalysts and other functional materials for fuel cellsEvaluate electrochemical activity and durability, from materials-level measurements through to fuel cell testingIntegrate promising materials into electrodes and membrane electrode assemblies, and optimise their performancePublish research findings and contribute to technical reports and research proposalsCollaborate with colleagues in AI and robotics to improve experimental workflows and laboratory capabilitiesWhat we offerMultidisciplinary environment to work alongside researchers across AI, chemistry, materials science and roboticsCompensation commensurate with capabilities and experience, with flexibility for outstanding candidates
