Apply & track with Apply EdgeSoftware Engineer, Salary: £60,000 – £80,000 (depending on experience)Our client is an early-stage, well-funded HealthTech startup with roots in world-class academic and veterinary institutions. Their platform combines connected hardware, biological data, and clinical expertise to shift pet healthcare from reactive to proactive — giving owners and vets the predictive insights they need to keep companion animals healthier for longer. They're hiring a sharp, product-minded Software Engineer to join the core engineering team, owning complex application and business logic at the heart of the platform. This is a genuinely collaborative environment: you'll work directly alongside veterinary specialists and clinical researchers, turning their domain expertise into well-engineered systems. They want someone who thinks like a partner — challenging assumptions, shaping product direction, and bringing ideas to the table. If you prefer picking tickets off a board, this isn't the role.Tech StackPython and AWS on the back endReact Native and TypeScript on the front endFirst 6 months — AI ops and automated testing. There's currently no testing infrastructure. You'll own the automated testing strategy from day one: building out a mature unit testing setup covering both isolated and integrated components, and designing custom tooling where off-the-shelf frameworks don't cut it.After that — open-ended. Once the testing foundation is solid, the role broadens. Where you go next depends on your strengths and where the product needs you most as the company scales.Who They're Looking ForAI coding experience (essential): You've worked hands-on with AI coding tools and workflows, and can talk critically about where they help, where they fall down, and what they do to development speed.Domain fit: Backgrounds in healthcare, hardware, or R&D are strongly preferred. Because the product is physical and clinical, candidates from purely finance/FinTech backgrounds tend not to be a match.Mindset: Proactive, startup-minded, and genuinely curious about hard, real-world problems.Education: A degree helps but isn't required — the Head of Engineering doesn't have one. What matters is what you can build and what you've shipped.
