Make something genuinely complex feel simpleKOIOS is rebuilding the data infrastructure that industry runs on. Product data across the supply chain is inconsistent, duplicated and unreliable, so nothing reconciles and every system built on top of it inherits the problem. We break product descriptions down into their component properties and resolve each one against a governed dictionary of more than 400,000 concepts drawn from international standards, producing data that is provably correct rather than merely plausible.That is a sophisticated engine. The job of this role is to make it feel effortless to the people using it — and to hold the whole platform together while it grows.THE TEAM YOU WOULD BE JOININGWe are a dynamic in Winchester, with real commercial traction. Our founder and CTO, Peter Eales, is the lead author of ISO 8000-110:2021, the international standard for master data quality, and KOIOS holds IRDI Authority status. We have just been contracted by a global industrial distributor to onboard the product data of around 3,000 manufacturers, which is why we are growing.You would join a small, senior engineering team spanning the graph and classification side of the platform and the applications built on top of it. At our size, nobody works in a silo: you would sit with the people who built the engine, talk directly to the customers using it, and have a real say in how the platform looks and behaves. This is not a solo brief, and it is not a support role — it is shared ownership of the layer that everybody, internally and externally, actually touches.WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOINGIntegrating the components of the platform — ingestion, the knowledge graph, classification services and the concept dictionary — into one coherent system rather than a set of parts.Building and improving the user interface: the screens where customers upload data, review how it has been classified, resolve the uncertain cases and get the results back out.Shaping the user experience. Semantic data governance is inherently complicated; a large part of the value we deliver is making it comprehensible. There is a lot of room here for someone with good instincts.Designing and maintaining the APIs that internal services and, increasingly, customers and partners build against as they create their own applications in the KOIOS environment.Keeping things solid as volume rises — performance, reliability, testing and the general craft of a codebase that will be lived in for years.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORSomeone who is comfortable across the stack and cares about what the person on the other side of the screen experiences. You will probably recognise yourself in most of this:Solid full stack experience — a modern JavaScript or TypeScript front end, and building services and APIs behind it.A real eye for interface and interaction design, or the appetite to develop one. You do not need to be a designer, but you should care when something is confusing.Experience integrating systems that were not originally built to fit together, and the patience that requires.Any exposure to cloud infrastructure, databases or data-heavy applications is welcome. Our platform runs on Azure with a Neo4j graph database and Python services behind it.A collaborative instinct.
