This role will be split between non-client work (building new features and continuing development & maintenance on our existing web-based products) and client work (including taking over some existing projects, as well as taking point on new projects).NOTE: This role is NOT client facing. You will not be expected to manage client expectations or handle sales/contracts.This role will work on a splattering of random tasks & projects, including product features, bug fixes, integrations, internal dashboards, workflow automation, data processing, and improvements to existing systems. The types of projects we work on can vary, so we’re looking for someone who learns quickly, is comfortable working across different systems, and can adapt as priorities shift. What we’re looking for:These descriptions are always difficult to write because the subject is nuanced and software development is complex. Here’s my attempt to be concise: we’re looking for someone whoIs a capable developer even without AIIs simultaneously comfortable leveraging AI to the hilt when it makes sense to do soCan weigh & communicate the tradeoffs/risks of using AI more or less heavily on certain tasks/projects. Similarly, can communicate associated tech-debt and design risksCan switch between “we need to do this quickly at the cost of [higher risk, lower quality, etc]” and “we need to do this diligently [possibly without AI]”Makes an effort to understand the code they output, how it works, and what its shortcomings/risks are - even if the actual code was “written” by AI(Sidenote: we do understand that if we decide to make heavy use of AI and move very quickly, then the level of understanding and familiarity with the code will be significantly less than if we spend the time to diligently design, write, and re-write it all by hand - those are all tradeoffs that we recognize, and simply need to be part of the discussion)Familiar with Next, React, Prisma, PostgreSQL, and Typescript, or has transferable knowledge (Next, React, etc are all easy enough to pick up if you have a background in other programming languages/frameworks)Hiring process:Submit your resume. We’ll review it.Intro Call: ~15 minsTake-Home Assignment: ~2-3 hours; hard stop at half daySecond Call: 1 hour call with the agenda:Discuss take-home & resume (~15-30 mins)Time to discuss any questions you have (however much or little time you want/need)Paid Trial: 1 day (~8 hours); $400;If desired we can spread this out over 2-4 partial days to accommodate work or personal schedulesFinal Thoughts & Process Notes:It’s fairly common for us to get 1,000-2,000 responses to these job listings.
