The successful candidate will provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the Department while contributing to excellence in teaching, research, student success, academic quality, and institutional development.The Chair will oversee departmental operations, curriculum development, faculty coordination, student advising, quality assurance, accreditation activities, and academic planning, and will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Economics and contribute to the faculty’s commitment to delivering high-quality, student-centered education.Teaching assignments may include courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, Economic Development, Monetary Economics, Public Finance, Econometrics, Economic Policy, Financial Economics, and related fields.Key Responsibilities1. Academic Leadership and AdministrationProvide academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Economics.Lead and coordinate the academic activities of the Economics Department in collaboration with the Dean and relevant faculty committees.Coordinate faculty workload assignments, course scheduling, and departmental operations.Lead curriculum review, development, and continuous improvement initiatives.Coordinate with full-time and part-time instructors to ensure consistency in syllabi, learning outcomes, course delivery, and assessment standards.Participate in departmental, faculty, and university academic meetings as required.Contribute to recruitment, mentoring, and evaluation processes related to departmental instructional needs, in accordance with university procedures.2. Teaching and LearningDeliver assigned undergraduate and graduate courses in accordance with approved syllabi and academic standards.Prepare lectures, course materials, case studies, assignments, and learning resources.Integrate current economic theories, policy developments, research findings, and real-world applications into teaching.Employ innovative teaching methods that foster critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and evidence-based decision-making.Utilize educational technologies and Learning Management Systems to enhance the learning experience.Maintain high standards of academic integrity and instructional excellence.Participate in curriculum enhancement initiatives to ensure program relevance and competitiveness.3. Assessment and EvaluationDesign and administer examinations, assignments, projects, presentations, and other assessment instruments.Evaluate student work fairly, objectively, and consistently.Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and academic performance.Ensure assessments align with course objectives and program learning outcomes.Participate in examination supervision and grading activities as required.Monitor student progress and support initiatives aimed at improving academic performance.4. Student Advising and MentorshipProvide academic advising and guidance to Economics students in economics and related programs.Assist students in understanding academic requirements, program pathways, and career opportunities.Mentor students in academic, professional, and personal development.Supervise student projects, internships, research activities, and capstone projects where applicable.Refer students to appropriate University support services when necessary.5. Research and Academic ContributionContribute to research, publications, applied studies, and academic initiatives in economics related disciplines.Participate in faculty academic development activities, accreditation-related work, quality assurance initiatives, and program improvement efforts.Maintain effective communication with students, faculty members, administrative units, and academic leadership.Required QualificationsPhD or DBA in Economics or a closely related field.Minimum of five years of university-level teaching experience.Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in economics, economic policy, research, consulting, banking, finance, public administration, or related fields.Strong knowledge of microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic theory, quantitative methods, and economic policy analysis.Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver university-level courses and assessments.Experience in curriculum development, academic administration, or departmental coordination is highly desirable.Proficiency in English and French.Excellent communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Strong computer literacy and proficiency with educational technologies and analytical software.Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated record of research and publication in Economics, economic research, financial institutions, public policy, development organizations, or consulting or related fields.Experience in curriculum development, course coordination, academic leadership, or program administration.Experience using Learning Management Systems, particularly Moodle and SIS.Experience in online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced learning environments.Application RequirementsInterested candidates should submit the following documents to HR@uls.edu.lb:Curriculum Vitae (CV)Cover LetterTeaching StatementResearch StatementCopies of Academic DegreesList of Publications (if applicable)Contact Information for Three Professional References
