Purpose of the Position:To maintain accurate, complete, and timely accounting records for the operations, ensuring compliance withIFRS, local statutory requirements, and Group accounting policies.Supports financial integrity and regulatory compliance by managing general ledger accounting, balance‑sheetreconciliations, and statutory reporting processes. Operating in a highly regulated environment, the role provides reliablefinancial information to support management reporting, audits, and effective decision‑making.Key Performance Objectives | TasksGeneral Ledger Accounting & Month‑End CloseMaintain accurate general ledger records in line with Group chart of accountsPrepare and post journal entries, accruals, provisions, and adjustmentsPerform monthly balance sheet and P&L reconciliationsSupport month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processesEnsure timely and accurate closing in line with Group reporting timelinesStatutory Reporting & IFRS CompliancePrepare statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local regulationsEnsure compliance with local accounting, tax, and regulatory requirementsMaintain accounting policies and ensure consistent applicationSupport consolidation and Group reporting requirementsMonitor changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirementsAudit Management & Compliance SupportSupport internal and external audit processesPrepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentationAddress audit queries and implement agreed audit recommendationsEnsure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintainedSupport regulatory reviews and inspections where applicableBalance Sheet Integrity & ControlMaintain strong control over balance sheet accountsInvestigate and resolve reconciling items promptlyEnsure timely clearance of suspense and intercompany accountsMonitor prepaid expenses, accruals, and provisions for accuracyEnsure balance sheet reflects true and fair financial positionIntercompany & Group AccountinGProcess and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances § Ensure intercompany charges are accurate and supported by agreements § Support intercompany confirmations and settlements § Ensure compliance with Group transfer pricing and accounting policies § Resolve intercompany differences in collaboration with Group FinanceSystems, Processes & Data IntegrityEnsure accurate accounting data capture in ERP and finance systemsSupport system upgrades, implementations, and process improvementsMaintain master data integrity within finance systemsIdentify accounting process inefficiencies and recommend improvementsAlign local accounting practices with Group standards and best practiceStakeholder Collaboration & SupportWork closely with Management Accounting, Credit, Treasury, and Commercial teamsSupport Finance leadership with accounting insights and analysisRespond to accounting‑related queries from internal stakeholdersProvide accounting guidance to non‑finance teams where requiredBuild effective working relationships across the organisationTeam Development & Knowledge SharingSupport coaching and development of junior accounting staffShare accounting best practices and standards within the Finance teamSupport succession planning and continuity of accounting knowledgeDemonstrate accountability, accuracy, and professionalism in all deliverablesContribute to a strong control‑focused finance cultureQualificationsDiploma in accounting, Finance, or related fieldBachelor’s Degree or professional accounting qualification (CA(SA), CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) advantageousExperience3–5 years’ experience in financial or general accounting rolesStrong experience in general ledger, reconciliations, and statutory reportingExperience in regulated or multi‑entity environmentsExposure to media, broadcasting, telecommunications, or subscription‑based businesses advantageousExperience working in African markets or multi‑currency environments preferredTechnical CompetenciesGeneral ledger and financial accountingIFRS and statutory reportingMonth‑end and year‑end close processesBalance sheet reconciliations and controlsAudit preparation and complianceIntercompany accountingERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, or equivalent)Microsoft Excel and accounting toolsBehavioural CompetenciesTask Ownership: Demonstrates accountability and commitment to seeing tasks through to completion.Effective Communication: Communicates clearly with peers, supervisors, and other departments.Continuous Learning: Seeks opportunities to grow skills and improve technical expertise.Reliability: Consistently meets deadlines and fulfills commitments.Team Collaboration: Works cooperatively within the team to support shared goals.Quality Orientation: Focuses on delivering high-quality work and adhering to standards.
