Position: Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel - DG Solar and BESS (Renewables)Location: Remote with regular travel to New York, NY and Denver, COPackage: $300k-$350k base + bonus, equityImportant Note: You must have recent experience in renewables (solar, wind, BESS) to be considered for this role.Company OverviewOur client is an emerging IPP in the renewable energy space. Well-funded and building an executive team focused on accelerating the energy transition market by developing, acquiring, owning, and operating DG solar projects across the US.The RoleThe General Counsel will serve as the senior legal executive and a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO.This individual will own the company’s legal strategy and provide hands-on support across project development, project finance and tax equity, corporate governance, regulatory and policy matters, and a wide range of commercial agreements.The ideal candidate brings deep experience in renewable energy or infrastructure, comfort with complex capital structures, and the ability to act as both a strategic advisor and a pragmatic business partner.Core ResponsibilitiesServe as primary legal advisor to the CEO, executive team, and board on major legal, regulatory, and risk issues.Lead negotiation and execution of complex transactions, including real estate/site control, EPC and equipment contracts, project finance facilities, tax equity, M&A/JVs, and key commercial agreements.Advise on U.S. renewable energy incentives and regulatory frameworks, and monitor evolving federal, state, and local requirements.Design and maintain an efficient legal entity structure and oversee corporate governance, entity maintenance, and board/committee documentation.Partner with internal teams and external advisors to optimize deal structures, manage compliance risk, and align legal strategy with business objectives.Build and manage relationships with external law firms and legal vendors to ensure high-quality, cost-effective support and disciplined legal spend.QualificationsJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.Minimum of 8-10 years of legal experience, with a preference for backgrounds in the renewable energy sector.Strong understanding of project finance concepts and structures, specifically tax equityExperience with warranty claims and the lifespan of dispute resolutionUnderstanding of the nexus of accounting and legal complianceExperience with securities regulation, SOX compliance, and public disclosure principlesRegulatory awareness of the power markets in the US (e.g. FERC, NERC, ERCOT, PJM, etc.)Demonstrated proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex agreements in project finance, real estate, and corporate development.Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.Ability to manage a high-volume workload under tight deadlines.Willingness to travel as needed for business requirements.
