Job Purpose:The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for managing and reviewing general ledger accounts and ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and validity of accounting entries. The role includes performing required reconciliations, managing accruals and prepayments, preparing correcting and reclassification entries, and supporting the monthly and annual financial closing processes.The position aims to ensure the integrity of account balances and the proper recording of transactions in the correct accounting period, account, project, and cost center, as well as preparing the accounting data required for financial reporting and internal and external audits.

Key Responsibilities

1. General Ledger Management and ReviewReview and record accounting journal entries within the assigned area of responsibility and ensure their accuracy, completeness, and supporting documentation.Verify the accuracy of accounts, accounting periods, projects, cost centers, and accounting classifications.Prepare correcting entries, reclassification entries, accruals, prepayments, depreciation entries, and other required journal entries as needed.Review unusual, abnormal, or unexplained balances and coordinate with the relevant parties to resolve them.Maintain the accuracy and integrity of general ledger account balances.2. Account ReconciliationsPrepare and review periodic reconciliations for significant accounts.Reconcile general ledger balances with supporting systems and records, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, banks, payroll, fixed assets, and other relevant accounts.Identify discrepancies, investigate their causes, and take the necessary corrective actions.Monitor outstanding balances, reconciliation accounts, and temporary/suspense accounts and ensure they are cleared and resolved in a timely manner.3. Accruals and PrepaymentsPrepare and monitor accrual and prepaid expense entries in accordance with approved accounting policies.Perform periodic reconciliations and amortization of prepaid expenses.Ensure expenses are recognized in the correct financial period in accordance with the accrual basis of accounting.4. Payroll and Fixed AssetsReview the accounting treatment of salaries, allowances, deductions, and related liabilities and reconcile them with the general ledger.Ensure payroll costs are allocated to the correct accounts, projects, and cost centers.Record and monitor fixed assets, additions, disposals, and depreciation within the assigned area of responsibility.Reconcile the fixed asset register with the corresponding general ledger balances.5. Projects and Cost CentersReview the allocation of revenues and expenses to the appropriate projects, cost centers, and accounts.Correct allocation or classification errors and coordinate with the relevant departments to resolve them.Support the Finance Department by providing accurate data to assist in analyzing project costs and profitability.6. Financial ClosingExecute and monitor monthly and annual closing procedures in accordance with the approved timetable and policies.Complete all required reconciliations, adjustments, and journal entries prior to closing.Review the trial balance and ensure the integrity of account balances, with no unexplained differences or balances.Escalate any issues or discrepancies that may affect the closing process or financial reporting to the direct supervisor.7. Reporting and Audit SupportSupport the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports by providing accurate accounting data within the required deadlines.Prepare analyses and information related to account balances and unusual transactions or movements when required.Provide supporting schedules, documents, and reconciliations for internal and external audit activities.Follow up on accounting audit findings and contribute to resolving and closing them.8. Controls and Continuous ImprovementComply with the company's approved accounting policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.Ensure the completeness of supporting documentation and approvals for transactions and accounting entries.Identify recurring accounting risks and errors and recommend corrective and process improvement actions.Maintain organized and audit-ready accounting records and reconciliations.Scope of Responsibility:The scope of work, according to the distribution of responsibilities within the Finance Department, includes:General LedgerAccount ReconciliationsAR / AP ReconciliationBank ReconciliationPayroll AccountingFixed AssetsAccruals & PrepaymentsProjects & Cost CentersBalance Sheet AccountsMonth-End & Year-End ClosingSupport for Financial Reporting and Audit ActivitiesKey Performance Indicators (KPIs):Adherence to the financial closing timetable.Percentage of reconciliations completed accurately and on time.Accuracy of journal entries and accounting records.Value and volume of outstanding and unreconciled balances.Accuracy of accruals and prepaid expenses.Accuracy of cost allocation to projects and cost centers.Number and frequency of adjustments resulting from accounting errors.Number of audit findings related to accounts within the assigned area of responsibility.Compliance with reporting deadlines and accounting requirements.Qualifications and Experience:Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.Relevant experience in general accounting, financial closing, reconciliations, and account analysis.Experience using ERP systems and accounting software.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial data analysis and reporting tools.Good knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and approved financial policies.Professional certification or professional accounting studies such as SOCPA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent are preferred.Skills and Competencies:High level of accuracy and attention to detail.Strong financial and accounting analytical skills.Ability to identify discrepancies and determine and resolve their root causes.Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.Ability to work effectively under pressure, particularly during financial closing periods.Strong communication and coordination skills with different departments.Good organizational and record-keeping skills.Ability to use ERP systems and work effectively with financial data.High level of confidentiality and commitment to financial controls.
