French-Speaking Association of the North Shore (FANS)General ManagerPosition purposeThe General Manager is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of FANS and translating the strategy and priorities established by the Committee into effective operational delivery.The General Manager provides leadership to FANS employees, including teaching and administrative teams, and is responsible for fostering a professional, collaborative and high-performing working environment.The General Manager is accountable to the FANS Committee collectively. The President serves as the General Manager’s primary point of contact and communicates the Committee’s agreed direction.Working closely with Killarney Heights Public School (KHPS), employees, families, volunteers and other stakeholders, the General Manager supports the effective delivery, continued development and success of FANS’ educational programs and broader community activities.The General Manager also develops and maintains strong relationships with relevant Australian and French institutions, educational organisations, sponsors and community partners, representing FANS professionally and promoting its objectives and reputation.About FANSFANS is a not-for-profit community association established to promote French language and francophone culture and support French bilingual education in Sydney.FANS works in close partnership with KHPS to support its well-established French-English bilingual program and also delivers French-language extracurricular educational activities for secondary students.Finally, the association also delivers community and fundraising initiatives, including its flagship French Market. These activities help strengthen our multicultural community and support the long-term development and sustainability of FANS' educational programs.Key responsibilitiesOrganisational leadership and operationsLead the day-to-day operations of FANS, ensuring the association operates efficiently, professionally and consistently with its objectives.Translate the strategy and priorities established by the Committee into operational plans and actions.Oversee the delivery and administration of FANS programs and activities, including enrolments, extracurricular programs and community initiatives.Develop and continuously improve appropriate operational systems, processes, policies and controls.Provide timely and accurate reporting to the FANS Committee to support effective oversight, decision-making and governance.People leadershipLead, support, develop and retain a high-quality team of teaching and administrative employees.Foster a respectful, inclusive, collaborative and high-performing workplace culture.Ensure effective recruitment, onboarding, performance management, professional development and workforce planning.Maintain clear roles, responsibilities and expectations and address employee matters fairly, consistently and professionally.Oversee employment administration, remuneration arrangements and payroll processes within approved budgets and policies.Educational programs and stakeholder relationshipsWork collaboratively with KHPS leadership and relevant staff to support the successful delivery and ongoing development of the French bilingual program.Maintain a strong and constructive working relationship with KHPS and Killarney Heights High School (KHHS), respecting the respective responsibilities of FANS, the schools and the NSW Department of Education.Develop productive relationships with families, members and the broader FANS community and ensure effective communication through appropriate channels.Represent FANS with relevant French and Australian institutions, educational organisations, community partners, sponsors and other external stakeholders.Financial management and sustainabilityManage and oversee FANS' financial operations in collaboration with the Treasurer and external accounting and audit providers.Coordinate annual budgeting, forecasting and regular financial reporting and monitor performance against approved budgets.Provide financial and commercial analysis to support decisions regarding programs, fees, investments and new initiatives.Maintain appropriate financial controls, approval processes and financial policies.Identify opportunities to strengthen FANS' financial sustainability through operational efficiencies, fundraising, sponsorship, grants and other appropriate revenue opportunities.Development and community engagementSupport the continued development of FANS' educational offering in line with the strategy established by the Committee.Identify and assess opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, fundraising and community engagement.Support major FANS community and fundraising activities, including the French Market.Governance, risk and complianceOperate within the FANS Constitution, Terms and Conditions, approved policies, budgets and authorities delegated by the Committee.Ensure FANS meets its relevant statutory, regulatory, employment and reporting obligations.Coordinate legal, regulatory and compliance matters and liaise with professional advisers or relevant authorities where required.Maintain appropriate risk management and internal control processes and ensure material operational, financial, employment, legal or reputational risks are appropriately identified and escalated.Selection criteriaThe successful candidate will bring:Demonstrated leadership and general management experience, ideally within an education, not-for-profit, community or similarly complex stakeholder environment.Strong people leadership capability, including team development, performance management and the ability to build a positive organisational culture.Sound financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and cost management.Strong operational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining focus on longer-term objectives.Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and demonstrated ability to build constructive relationships across diverse groups.Strong judgement, integrity and discretion, with an understanding of appropriate governance, risk management and organisational accountability.A collaborative, pragmatic and solutions-focused leadership style, with resilience, adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement.Professional fluency in both French and English.About the roleFull-time position based primarily at Killarney Heights Public School.Four weeks' annual leave, with flexibility in working arrangements during non-term periods subject to operational requirements.Some evening work is required, including Committee and school community meetings, together with
