About the CompanyOur client, a Logistics Company in Zambia, is seeking a hands-on, technically strong General Operations Manager to support the overall leadership of its logistics operations.This role is designed for an individual with deep practical expertise in fleet and driver management, who can work closely with truck drivers and operational teams to ensure efficiency, compliance, and smooth day-to-day logistics execution.The successful candidate will focus on the technical and operational aspects of logistics while contributing to strategic growth. The company currently operates a fleet of 500 trucks, with plans for continued expansion, making this a pivotal role in scaling operations effectively.About the RoleThis role is designed for an individual with deep practical expertise in fleet and driver management, who can work closely with truck drivers and operational teams to ensure efficiency, compliance, and smooth day-to-day logistics execution. The successful candidate will act as the second-in-command to the existing General Manager, focusing on the technical and operational aspects of logistics while contributing to strategic growth.ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership Oversee daily logistics operations, with a strong focus on fleet and driver management.Ensure trucks are dispatched, maintained, and operated efficiently to meet delivery schedules.Implement and monitor safety, compliance, and operational standards across the fleet.Driver & Team Management Build strong working relationships with truck drivers, providing guidance, discipline, and support.Lead by example with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and operational challenges.Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Technical Oversight Monitor vehicle performance, fuel usage, and maintenance schedules.Troubleshoot operational issues and implement practical solutions to minimise downtime.Collaborate with workshop teams to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and compliant.Strategic Support Act as the 2IC to the General Manager, supporting overall business leadership.Provide operational insights to inform strategic decisions.Contribute to long-term logistics planning and efficiency improvements, particularly as the fleet expands.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred but not mandatory with strong practical experience).Minimum 7–10 years of experience in logistics, fleet management, or transport operations.Proven ability to manage truck drivers and operational teams in a high-volume logistics environment.Strong technical knowledge of fleet operations, maintenance, and compliance.Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to thrive in a hands-on, practical role with direct involvement in day-to-day operationsRequired SkillsPractical, hands-on leadership style.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage diverse teams.Operational discipline and attention to detail.Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced logistics environment.Commercial awareness and cost-control focus.Pay range and compensation packageRelocation assistance provided.On-site accommodation.Company car and fuel allowance.Competitive salary package.Please note: the successful candidate will be required to relocate to Lusaka, Zambia
