Title: GIS & Application Developer

Location: Remote EST work hoursAbout the RoleJoin the client’s Department's technology team to build the geospatial and data tools that airport operations staff rely on across JFK, LGA, and EWR.

You'll work at the intersection of GIS, modern web development, and API architecture — developing interactive maps, dashboards, and mobile-friendly applications that visualize airport infrastructure and assets in real time. This role also sits at the leading edge of AI-ready data infrastructure, including MCP-compatible reporting layers designed for future AI agent integration.

Responsibilities

Integrate geospatial data from multiple sources, build interactive maps and spatial analytics tools, and create GIS-enabled dashboards and applications that visualize airport infrastructure, assets, and operations.Design, develop, and implement secure, reliable, and scalable APIs that enable data exchange between Department enterprise systems, external partners, and future AI agent integration via MCP-compatible (Model Context Protocol) reporting layers.Design, develop, test, and deploy Progressive Web Apps that deliver responsive, mobile-friendly experiences, integrating custom UI designs with backend systems including the Aviation Data Warehouse (ADAW).

Required Skills

6+ years of experience in software development, with demonstrated GIS and web application workHands-on experience with a GIS platform (e.g., Esri ArcGIS / ArcGIS Online, QGIS, PostGIS, Mapbox, or Leaflet)Experience designing and building RESTful APIs (Node.js, .NET, Python/FastAPI, or similar)Experience building Progressive Web Apps (React, Angular, or Vue; service workers, offline capability, responsive design)Ability to integrate front-end UI with backend data systemsStrong communication skills and comfort working with cross-functional stakeholdersNice-to-Haves:Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or AI agent integration / AI-ready data layersAviation, airport, or transportation domain experienceExperience with the Aviation Data Warehouse or similar enterprise data systemsGISP certification or Esri technical certificationsExperience in public-sector or large-enterprise environments
