Role overview Hardware Lab is looking for a Hardware Test Engineer to validate electronic products, embedded systems, and IoT devices from prototype to release. You will work with hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineers to identify defects early, investigate failures, and deliver reliable products. AI is part of the daily engineering workflow. You will use AI tools to accelerate test preparation, automation, data analysis, and reporting, while taking responsibility for the accuracy of test methods and conclusions. Key responsibilities Develop test plans, test cases, and clear pass or fail criteria from product requirements, schematics, and component datasheets. Maintain traceability between requirements and test results. Perform PCB inspection, initial power-up checks, and functional testing of power supplies, battery charging, sensors, interfaces, and device operating modes. Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, programmable power supplies, and electronic loads to measure performance and investigate faults. Test hardware and firmware integration, including communication failures, power interruptions, recovery behavior, and boundary conditions. Run regression tests after design changes. Build and maintain Python scripts, reusable test fixtures, and automated workflows for instrument control, data collection, repetitive testing, and report generation. Execute reliability, endurance, and environmental tests according to product requirements. Support field trials and external laboratory testing when needed. Record reproducible defects with measurements, waveforms, logs, and relevant hardware and firmware versions. Work with development engineers to investigate root causes and verify fixes. AI first working approach Use AI to draft test cases, identify missing scenarios, develop and debug test scripts, analyze logs, and summarize results. Improve reusable prompts and workflows as the team learns. Review AI-generated code and recommendations before use. Confirm technical claims against source documents and bench measurements, and base release recommendations on verified evidence. Required qualifications Degree or diploma in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 2+ years of experience in a similar positionHands-on experience testing or debugging electronic circuits and embedded devices through employment, internships, or substantial practical projects. Ability to read schematics and datasheets, understand basic analog and digital circuits, and use laboratory instruments correctly. Working knowledge of common interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, and RS-485, with the ability to inspect signals and diagnose communication issues. Basic Python programming skills and the ability to understand, modify, and troubleshoot test scripts, including scripts developed with AI assistance. Practical familiarity with AI assistants and a willingness to use them routinely. Ability to explain how an AI output was checked and corrected. A systematic approach to debugging, attention to detail, and ownership of test quality. Ability to document issues clearly and collaborate across engineering teams. Ability to read technical documents and write clear test reports in English. Preferred experience Testing connected devices using BLE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, LoRaWAN, or cellular communication, or industrial protocols such as Modbus and BACnet. Automated instrument control, hardware-in-the-loop testing, test fixtures, or production test development. Basic C or C++ skills, firmware flashing, embedded debugging, Git, and issue tracking tools. Battery-powered devices, power consumption measurement, sensor calibration, or environmental and EMC pre-compliance testing. What success looks like Important product requirements are covered by repeatable tests, with clear evidence and visibility of untested areas. Defects are reported early with enough information to reproduce them, and fixes are verified before closure. AI and automation reduce repetitive work and reporting time while maintaining reliable measurements and conclusions.
