Head of EngineeringStealth // Systematic Wealth Management CompanyNew York City preferred · San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, London & other major hubs considered$150,000–$180,000 base + up to 10% for the right candidateThe OpportunityWe are building a technology company at the intersection of AI, systematic investing, and wealth management.A massive transition is underway in financial services. Capital markets have spent decades moving from human-intensive processes toward systematic, data-driven infrastructure. Wealth management and adjacent parts of asset management are now entering that transition. There is roughly $140T of wealth and assets in the broader market that will increasingly be managed, analyzed, and serviced through intelligent systems. The opportunity is to build the infrastructure for that transition. We are already working with paying customers, have a strong technical and commercial core team, and have additional design partners coming into the platform. The company is backed by experienced industry participants and has substantial mandates in front of it.We are looking for a Head of Engineering to own the technical organization and help build the company through its next stage. You will be the senior technical operator, work directly with the founders, make consequential architectural and product decisions, and help determine what the engineering organization becomes. For the right person, this role can become CTO.You + What You'll OwnYou'll be a/the senior technical operator in the company, working directly with the founders on architecture, roadmap, and the build itself. This is a player-coach seat: you'll write code, make the hard systems calls, ship alongside a strong core engineering team, and grow the organization as the business scales. Own the engineering function end-to-end: architecture, infrastructure, development, deployment, reliability, security, and technical standards.Work directly with the founders to translate an ambitious product vision into a durable technical roadmap.Make the difficult architectural decisions required to build a system operating across AI, financial data, and complex external integrations.Lead a small, highly capable engineering team while establishing the culture, processes, and technical standards that will support significant scale.Balance speed and rigor. We need to move quickly, but the systems we build will ultimately sit inside serious financial workflows where accuracy and reliability matter.Work closely with product, research, and customers to determine what should be built, how it should work, and where engineering leverage is highest.Recruit and develop exceptional engineers as the company grows.Take responsibility when things break. Diagnose problems, establish root causes, and build systems that prevent them from recurring.Help shape the company's broader technical strategy, including how we use increasingly capable AI models as part of production software. The Technical ChallengeThe system sits at the intersection of several difficult engineering problems:AI systems: Harness, LLMs, specialized models, agentic workflows, retrieval, evaluation, and model reliability.Financial data and execution: Market data, portfolio data, client information, financial documents, and other structured and unstructured datasets.Data infrastructure: High-quality ingestion, normalization, transformation, storage, and retrieval across numerous external systems.Production systems: Cloud infrastructure, databases, observability, security, testing, and deployment.Reliability: Building systems where correctness, traceability, and predictable behavior matter as much as raw velocity. You do not need to have worked with every part of it. You do need to be technically deep enough to understand the tradeoffs and decisive enough to make them.Who We're Looking ForWe are flexible on background and years of experience. You might be a senior engineer who has already been operating as a technical leader. You might be a founding engineer who has built systems from zero to scale. You might be an engineering leader at a larger company who wants substantially more ownership. Have exceptional engineering fundamentals and the ability to reason deeply about complex systems.Be comfortable writing and reviewing production code yourself.Have strong experience with Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript and modern cloud infrastructure.Understand databases, APIs, distributed systems, data pipelines, and production software architecture.Be comfortable working with AI/ML systems and genuinely interested in where they are going.Have unusually high standards for correctness and engineering quality.Be comfortable operating with incomplete information and making decisions without a large organization around you.Be willing to work under pressure and take responsibility when the answer isn't obvious.Communicate exceptionally well with both technical and non-technical people.Want to build something rather than simply manage something.Experience in systematic investing, quantitative finance, capital markets, fintech, or financial services is a meaningful plus, but is not required. Why This RoleThere are paying customers, active mandates, incoming design partners, a strong founding team, and a substantial market opportunity — but the engineering organization is still small enough that the person taking this role can fundamentally shape it. If you are looking for a role where you can own engineering, work directly with founders, and potentially become the company's CTO, we'd like to meet you.You will have direct access to the founders, meaningful influence over product and company strategy, and the opportunity to build the technical organization from an early stage. For an exceptional candidate, equity can be as high as 10%.New York City is preferred. San Francisco, Boston, London, and other major technology or financial centers will be considered.
