Head of Engineering

Role Description This part-time remote Head of Engineering role is responsible for overseeing the technical direction and execution of software initiatives at Vagas no Setor Público SP. The person in this role will lead and mentor engineering teams, define technical standards, and ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals. Daily responsibilities include coordinating cross-functional collaboration, reviewing architectural decisions and code quality, and removing blockers to maintain a productive development environment. The Head of Engineering will also manage resource planning, contribute to strategic technology roadmaps, and implement best practices for security, reliability, and scalability. Regular reporting on engineering performance, risks, and opportunities to senior stakeholders is expected.Qualifications Strong team management and team leadership skills, with experience guiding diverse, distributed engineering teams.Proven engineering management experience, including setting technical direction and establishing development processes.Solid project management skills, with the ability to prioritize work, manage timelines, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.Hands-on software development background, with proficiency in modern development practices, tools, and methodologies.Experience working in remote or hybrid environments, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable systems and architectures.Demonstrated track record in mentoring engineers, supporting professional growth, and fostering an inclusive team culture.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Familiarity with public sector or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
