Head of Laboratory

Key Responsibilities

** *Medical Leadership & Quality* Set the medical direction for all laboratory disciplines including haematology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology and pathology. Review and approve test menus, methods, reference ranges and critical values. Oversee method validation and maintain audit-ready validation dossiers. Own the laboratory quality management system: SOPs, audits, non-conformance tracking and corrective action.* *Accreditation & Compliance* Lead the laboratory toward ISO 15189, CAP or JCI accreditation and maintain standards through surveillance audits. Run internal quality control and external quality assessment programmes. Keep the laboratory compliant with Vietnamese medical laboratory regulations and biosafety requirements.* *Operations & Performance* Plan laboratory workflows and capacity to deliver turnaround time targets across the network of collection points. Own equipment, reagent and consumables strategy: selection, validation, maintenance and cost per test. Manage the laboratory budget, control costs and propose investments with clear business cases.* *People & Culture* Lead, coach and assess laboratory department heads and staff. Set performance expectations and KPIs in line with company policy and Vietnamese labour law. Define competency requirements and training pathways. Build a culture of accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.* *Business Growth & Client Relations* Partner with Sales, Key Accounts and Customer Support to expand the laboratory service menu and grow revenue. Be the clinical point of contact for hospitals, clinics and corporate clients on complex cases, discrepant results and test selection. Report laboratory performance, risks and improvement plans to the Chairman on a regular schedule.*WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR**Required Qualifications:** Medical degree (MD) with postgraduate specialisation in pathology or laboratory medicine* Valid Vietnamese practising licence covering laboratory medicine and pathology — currently active* Minimum 10 years of experience in clinical laboratories - At least 5 years in a leadership role (Head of Laboratory, Director, or major department head) - Experience managing teams of 50+ people* Commercial experience in a diagnostics company or hospital laboratory: - Budget and P&L ownership, or - Pricing and test costing, or - Business development with B2B clients (hospitals, clinics, corporate accounts)* Proven track record running a laboratory under ISO 15189, CAP or JCI accreditation standards* Professional fluency in English, spoken and written (reading and writing clinical and operational documents)*Preferred Qualifications:** Experience in a high-volume private diagnostic network or large hospital system (e.g., Singapore, India, China)* Familiarity with multi-site collection networks and logistics* Background in molecular diagnostics and laboratory information systems* Working knowledge of Vietnamese language, or prior experience in Southeast Asia
