Company Description The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) is seeking an accomplished legal professional to join its executive leadership team as Head of Legal. This is a senior, Board-facing appointment reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, with regular engagement with the Chair on matters of legal risk, governance and strategic importance.Established under the Competition Regulatory Authority (Jersey) Law 2001, the JCRA administers and enforces the competition law in Jersey, regulates Jersey’s telecommunications, postal services, and air and sea ports. The JCRA’s decisions have a significant impact on the Island’s key markets and are closely scrutinised by government, industry stakeholders and the media.Role Description This role offers a unique opportunity to serve as the Authority’s principal legal adviser, providing expert counsel on competition, regulatory, public, and administrative law. As the JCRA’s senior legal leader, you will shape legal strategy across investigations, enforcement actions, and litigation. You will also represent the Authority in engagements with government, regulated entities, and international regulatory counterparts, including the CMA and Ofcom.Working closely with the Board and executive team, you will oversee the organisation’s legal risk framework, support effective governance and ensure that legal considerations are embedded within strategic decision-making. While typically operating as the sole in-house lawyer, you will be supported by a multidisciplinary team and will have the ability to instruct external counsel where appropriate, with scope to develop additional in-house legal capability over time.Applicants should be qualified advocates, solicitors or barristers (Jersey, UK or equivalent EU jurisdictions) with a minimum of nine years’ post-qualification experience. Significant expertise in competition, regulatory, public or administrative law is essential, gained within private practice, in-house legal teams, government or regulatory environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional judgement, strong analytical and drafting skills, and the ability to provide clear, commercially and strategically informed advice on complex and sensitive matters.The position offers a competitive remuneration package benchmarked against senior legal leadership roles, together with private healthcare, pension, wellbeing support, professional subscription funding and relocation assistance where required.
