Head of Software Engineering

About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering function. This is a senior leadership position responsible for setting the technical direction of the business, building and developing a high-performing engineering team, and ensuring we continue to deliver secure, scalable and high-quality technology.You will work closely with the executive leadership team, product and commercial functions to translate business objectives into a clear engineering strategy.Key ResponsibilitiesDefine and execute the engineering strategy in line with wider business objectives.Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team.Own the architecture, scalability, reliability and performance of the technology platform.Establish strong engineering practices around development, testing, deployment and code quality.Work closely with Product, Design, Security and other senior stakeholders to prioritise technical initiatives.Drive the adoption of modern technologies, tools and engineering methodologies where appropriate.Oversee cloud infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD and technical operations.Ensure systems and applications meet appropriate security, compliance and data protection standards.Manage engineering budgets, resources and technology investments.Support recruitment, retention and development of engineering talent.Identify technical risks and establish strategies to mitigate them.Communicate complex technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Help shape the long-term technology roadmap and support the company's continued growth.Must-HavesSignificant experience leading software engineering or technology teams.Previous experience as a Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, Engineering Director, or similar senior leadership position.Strong software engineering background with experience across modern development environments.Experience designing and scaling cloud-based, distributed or SaaS platforms.Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices and DevOps.Experience building and managing high-performing engineering teams.Demonstrable hiring experience within the last 6 months, including direct involvement in recruiting engineering talent.Commercial awareness and the ability to connect technology strategy with business objectives.Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.Experience working in a fast-paced, growing technology environment.A hands-on and pragmatic leadership style, with the ability to get into technical detail when required.Desirable ExperienceExperience with AWS, Azure or GCP.Experience with modern CI/CD and DevOps practices.Experience with AI/ML or data-driven products.Experience scaling engineering teams during periods of rapid growth.Experience working within SaaS, B2B technology or enterprise software.Experience with security, compliance and regulated environments.What We OfferA senior leadership position with significant influence over the company's technology strategy.The opportunity to build and develop a high-performing engineering function.A collaborative and ambitious working environment.Competitive salary and benefits package.Significant opportunity for career progression and impact.
