Head of RecreationPosition SummaryThe Head of Recreation is responsible for the overall management, operation, and development of all recreational facilities and activities, including swimming pools, padel courts, tennis courts, fitness and wellness offerings, children’s activities, and leisure programs. The role ensures exceptional guest experiences, maintains the highest safety standards, drives revenue growth, and leads a high-performing recreation team.Key ResponsibilitiesRecreation Operations ManagementOversee the daily operations of all recreation facilities, including swimming pools, padel courts, tennis courts, fitness areas, and leisure spaces.Ensure all facilities are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation.Develop and implement recreation schedules, activities, tournaments, and special events.Monitor facility usage and recommend improvements to enhance guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.Team LeadershipLead, mentor, and develop the recreation team, including supervisors, lifeguards, coaches, attendants, and activity coordinators.Conduct regular performance reviews and training programs.Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained to support operational requirements.Guest ExperienceDeliver exceptional customer service and create engaging recreational experiences for members and guests.Handle guest feedback, complaints, and special requests professionally and promptly.Develop innovative programs, events, and seasonal activities to enhance participation and satisfaction.Health, Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with all health, safety, and operational regulations.Oversee pool safety procedures, emergency response plans, and facility risk assessments.Maintain certifications, inspections, and documentation related to recreation facilities.Financial ManagementPrepare and manage departmental budgets.Monitor revenue and expenses to achieve financial targets.Identify opportunities to increase participation, memberships, coaching programs, court utilization, and recreational revenue streams.Facility & Vendor ManagementCoordinate preventive maintenance schedules with the engineering and maintenance teams.Manage relationships with external vendors, coaches, suppliers, and service providers.Ensure all recreation equipment is maintained in excellent working condition.Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.Minimum 5-7 years of experience managing recreational facilities, sports clubs, leisure destinations, resorts, or hospitality environments.Proven experience overseeing swimming pools, racket sports facilities (padel and tennis), fitness programs, and recreational activities.Strong leadership and team management skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.Knowledge of health, safety, and risk management practices.Budgeting and financial management experience.Key CompetenciesLeadership & People ManagementGuest Service ExcellenceStrategic PlanningEvent & Activity ManagementBudget ManagementProblem Solving & Decision MakingHealth & Safety ComplianceRelationship ManagementOperational ExcellenceReporting ToDirector of Operations / General ManagerDirect ReportsRecreation SupervisorsLifeguardsPadel & Tennis CoachesRecreation AttendantsActivity CoordinatorsPool Operations Team
